Is Filip Chytil one of the Rangers players likely to be traded at the deadline?

The Rangers were looking to end their western Canada road trip with a win, but instead ran into a hot goalie who stole one from the Blueshirts. The Rangers really controlled this one, taking it to a Canucks team that is in the playoff hunt, but it was Jacob Markstrom who stole the show, making 36 saves in a 2-1 Canucks win.

The Rangers really took it to the Canucks on this one, probably fueled by Vancouver’s odd choice to honor their 1994 team against the team that beat them in the Cup Finals. The Rangers had a 62% shot attempt advantage and a 68% expected-goals advantage, but it was all Markstrom, all night. I guess now we know how it feels.

Another game, another goal in the first minute. Adam Fox was covering the man in front because Ryan Lindgren was out by the half boards for some reason. By the time he gets back to cover the man in front, it’s too late, as Antoine Roussel circled to the back door behind Fox for the easy rebound goal. Chytil had to leave the slot to cover the puck carrier otherwise there was a clear path to the net. That’s too many Canucks in front for Fox and Chytil.

Rangers 1, Canucks 1

Pavel Buchnevich took the hit to move the play along behind the net, then Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider maintained possession as Buch cut to the slot. The Canucks forgot about him, and it was an easy tap-in once he had the puck from Kreider.

Canucks 2, Rangers 1

Tyler Myers let one go from the point and Alex Georgiev just couldn’t get it with the screen in front. Three players provided enough of a screen for Myers’ wrister to win it.

This is what you like to see from the Rangers. More of this means more wins.

Everyone in the “good” sections, for the most part. I will accept “fun” here too.

This is one of those great process games that you just tap your stick to the goalie and move on. Markstrom stole this one, plain and simple. If they play like this on a daily basis, they will win a lot of games.
