And just like that, the Rangers only have two prospects remaining at the 2020 World Juniors. Both Team USA (K’Andre Miller, Zac Jones) and Switzerland (Nico Gross) were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Sweden (Nils Lundkvist, Karl Henriksson) faces Russia in the semi-finals.

Gross finishes the tournament with a goal in three games. He was also injured and missed the last two games.

Miller, captain of the USA team, finished with a pair of assists in five games while among the team leaders in ice time. Jones had a goal and an assist in five games.

Now seems like a good time to remind everyone that the World Juniors are not the best barometer of future success. The tournament is littered with stories of prospects who had their stocks rise only to be middling NHLers at best. It’s a very small sample size for these players, and a while a good performance does inflate draft stock, a bad performance doesn’t deflate that stock.
