Artemi Panarin named an All Star for first time in his career

Prized free agent leading Rangers in scoring

Artemi Panarin has been selected as a 2020 All Star, which will be his first All Star selection in his career. I find that to be crazy, that he’s never been an All Star before. He’s also the first Russian to represent the Rangers at the All Star Game in the club’s history.

Panarin, signed as a free agent this offseason, leads the Rangers in scoring with a line of 21-30-51 in 38 games. He makes all of his teammates better too, with all of his linemates playing better with him than without.

As it stands, Panarin is the only Ranger selected to the team. However voting does open on January 1, where fans will have the chance to vote in others in the Last Man Standing. Mika Zibanejad represents the Rangers for that honor.

Worth noting that Joonas Korpisalo, who is out with a knee injury, was selected to the All Star Game. He may need to be replaced. Just something to keep an eye on.

  • Seriously, I would put this guy pretty close to Jagr, and who plays great D.

55 years as a Ranger fan, this guy is one of the best that I have seen, since I have been a fan. Just a joy to watch.

    Well deserved!!

    • That brings back memories of me laying on my bed on Long Island listening to Marv Albert on my radio! It felt like i was there at the garden!

      • Yeah, Marv was great, huh? Made you feel like you were there, like you said.

        Kenny is very good too.

    • Agreed. As a fan it’s refreshing to see players on your team who exhibit pure joy when they play the game. We’re lucky to have two players like that in Panarin and Zibby.

  • I have been a Ranger fan for 50 years a big Gabroik fan as well as Jagr but Panarin is special all over the ice and his vision is unmatched well deserved honor

  • Usually when a star player comes to NY their reputation precedes them and the media can build up the player more than their play warrants ad nauseam, to the point where it becomes annoying. But in Panarin’s case I actually don’t think enough has been written about what a great season he’s having.

I knew he was good, but had no idea how good this guy is on the forecheck and even along the boards. He may not be very physical, but more often than not he comes away with the puck out of scrums along the boards. He’s just a pleasure to watch game in and game out. He’s a real offensive threat for the Rangers. Something they haven’t had in a while.

  • It’s hard to believe that Artie has never been selected for the all-star game???????

Congratulations to him for being selected, and representing our beloved Rangers. Go get them Breadman!!!!!!!!
