Lundkvist, Henriksson make Sweden’s World Junior roster

Both to play prominent roles for Sweden

The Rangers have their first two confirmed 2020 World Juniors participants, as defenseman Nils Lundkvist (2018 1st) and forward Karl Henriksson (2019 2nd) were on the final roster.

Lundkvist, expected to make the roster this year, has been tearing up the SHL this season and is on pace to set defense scoring records. In 22 games, he has a line of 4-12-16.

Henriksson, who is in the SuperElit league this season as an 18 year old, has a line of 5-18-23 in 17 games. He is 5th on Frolunda’s J20 team in scoring.

  • If they don’t want to put their career in jeopardy before it even starts than they better not toss away any medals.

  • Corey Pronman, the Athletic prospect guru, now raves abut Nils after originally questioning his upside. He said recently: ” ……….
This season, Lundkvist is on pace to be the best scoring teenage defenseman in SHL history by a wide margin. He’s having an absolutely monster season. When I’ve watched Lulea, it was clear I underrated his skill and speed. He’s an excellent skater with a good but not great skill level, but his hockey IQ is near elite, as well. At the international level he hasn’t been amazing, but as discussed last year, that’s why you watch the club games……..”

Lundkvist is tracking possibly to be Fox level – he’s a better skater but doesn’t quite have Adam’s hockey sense. Going to create a good problem with 4 excellent RHD’s. Might lead to ADA trade at some point. Too bad our LHD’s pale in comparison.

Henriksson is an interesting prospect too. Has a chance to be better than Howden/Andersson.

  • Can it be we made some very good draft picks????

Lundkvist can play a 200 foot game as well, sound defensively!!!!!!!!

  • Lundkvist is a player that my mole informed me about….A bonafide prospect…….with an upside…an extremely intelligent player
