Marc Staal has surgical procedure on infected ankle, out at least two weeks

NY Rangers defenseman to be re-evaluated in two weeks

Rangers defenseman Marc Staal had surgery to address an infection in his ankle, and will be re-evaluated in two weeks. The wording here is key, as the Rangers are saying he will be re-evaluated, not return to the lineup. He may be out longer than two weeks.

While most of the attention is going to shift to Staal being out and the kids getting extended looks on the blue line, let’s take a step back and recognize that infections are no joke. Here’s to a speedy recovery for Staal.

  1. This is not Snark towards Marc (ha) I wonder if this is to have him out for extended period without the embarrassment or ego bruising, I believe teams have done this before (i.e. mysterious illness out of nowhere for a veteran, of all weekends!). If legit, that sucks

      1. I’m sure this is probably true, but I believe they may be trying to showcase some guys for possible trades…. jus’ sayin’…..

    1. Yea man, absolutely – an infection anywhere can turn ugly real fast. I mean right? People have died from an infection after a routine surgery just days later – leads me to believe he has been in and out of the Trainers/med unit prior to this occurrence, bro.

  2. Take youerrrrrrr time… like maybe the rest of the year off.

Collect your check, recover and RETIRE !!!

No bad will, but isn’t this the best thing that could’ve happened…..I mean except for season ending allergies

    1. Lou

You are a moron. We would be better off without fans like you. How can you say that it is the best thing that could happen? Stall’s play has been horrible, but why would you want him hurt?

      Complete idiot

  3. As a major critic of Marc, it’s directed at the player, not the man. Get well soon!!!!

  4. Staal can take some rest, give kids more playing time. Among the young D men, Fox is really good, high Hockey IQ, always makes the smart decisions. He is like Tony D with far better defense. Fox is going to be a very good player.
