Igor Shesterkin named CCM/AHL goalie of the month

Rookie posted a 1.49 GAA and .942 SV% in October

Igor Shesterkin was named the CCM/AHL goaltender of the month for October. The Rangers’ 4th round pick in 2014 posted a 1.49 GAA and a .942 SV% on 155 shots, allowing just six goals in that span and posting his first AHL shutout. The Hartford Wolf Pack went 5-1-0 in his six starts.

Shesterkin is considered the heir-apparent to Henrik Lundqvist, and it’s going to be difficult to keep him in the AHL if he continues to put up numbers like this. But as long as both Lundqvist and Alex Georgiev continue to put up solid numbers of their own, Shesterkin will carry the Pack.

"Igor Shesterkin named CCM/AHL goalie of the month", 5 out of 5 based on 1 ratings.

  1. He’s the real deal boys and girls.

Forcing the Rangers to have to make a decision at some point this year. I see Georgie and DeAngelo being dealt. They can include Marc Staal as well.

BTW, Marc is upset. So request a trade and make us all happy.

    1. I don’t know if you subscribe to the Athletic, but Carpeniello finally retracted a little on his staunch defense of Staal. He still won’t fully ascribe to the deplorable metrics associated with Staal though. I generally like his stuff but that Staal nonsense has caused him to lose a little credibility in my eyes.

      1. I find that the beat writers are pretty much shills of the team. I mean who ever questioned the team about Staal the past 3 years?

I find that Portzline (I think his name is) the beat for the CBJs is one of the most honest and objective that I have read. He’s usually right about rumors too. He said last year at this time that Panarin’s first choice was the Rangers.

  2. Not surprised at all. Shesterkin is the Rangers goalie of the future. Lundqvist role in his final 2 seasons should be as backup and mentor to the Rangers crop of young netminders. I know it’s a hard pill to swallow for the die hard Henk fans, but we all reach that time in our careers, it’s part of life.

  3. I have talking Igor forever. He is going to force the management into making some decisions really quickly.
We are only 10 games in, but if he continues to shine, which is very likely, he would be better served to get some NHL action. But someone would need to go down to clear the spot. Since it is stupid to carry three goalies and Georgiev is not subject to waivers, they can utilize the Hartford Shuttle to keep both Igor and Georg playing in both the NHL & AHL.

  4. Georgiev was terrific again today. The young goalies are trying to force their way in.
