With their first 2nd round pick (#49, acquired from Dallas in the Mats Zuccarello deal), the Rangers selected defenseman Matthew Robertson out of the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings. This year, the 6’3″, 200 lb lefty put up 7-26-33 in 52 games.
Robertson is a big guy who throws his body around, but that doesn’t mean he’s bad with the puck. He’s very strong on one-on-one situations, which is something you expect for someone his size with his reach. He’s a decent skater, with better agility than you might imagine for a kid his size, which helps him keep rushers to the outside.
The worry is his offensive contributions, but he has good hands.
