Rangers interested in Sergei Shumakov

The Rangers appear to have interest in 26 year old winger Sergei Shumakov, currently in the KHL with CSKA.

The 26-year-old winger put up 17-23-40 in 47 games last season, which likely translates well to the NHL (NHLe has him at a shade over 50 points). The fact that he’s a righty is an added bonus. Alex Nunn has more details on Shumakov.

Shumakov is a low-risk bet for a team that could use some secondary scoring. At just 26 years old, there’s still good prime seasons remaining as well. There’s a bunch of unknowns here though.

Point totals are trending up while games played went down. Shows improvement.

At that age though you get what you get.

    Good backup policy

Question is why he’s never played a full KHL season and the number has trended down.

Points per game has gone up each season.

Not arguing his output, wondering why he can’t even play 3/4 of an NHL season. Is it injury, butting heads wth management?

Your response is not providing that insight I asked for.

As in this case, as long as he’s not costing us assets in picks or young players. Why not? Risk free move.

Last time I looked, I don’t remember seeing Crosby, Malkin, or Ovechkin types in our line up, so why the hell not?

    He can help recruit Panarin.

The Russians are coming!! The Russians are coming!!

another average size player…its amazing…if you took off Zucc’s sweater it would fit more than half the guys on the team…not a good way to build a team.

We have a 6’5 220 2nd line center that is being pushed out the door…yet keep all the 5’10 180lb guys around…sounds like a hard team to play against to me.

    Skinner to Buffalo.

Jeff must be enjoying watching everyone else improve.

Whatever happened to patience with the rebuild ? Skinner would just get in the way of our pursuit of Hughes.

      • Aug 2, 2018 at 9:11 pm

Or some other no name player in place of Hughes because we are smarter than everyone else

  • Aug 2, 2018 at 7:32 pm

Hope you’re not banking on Hughes my friend, lol.

I need something to hope for this year

This team as currently constructed is not a bottom 5 team in the league. They still have some good players. The Rangers management would never let the team get that bad any way.

          I think you’re right

        Hope? How about:

Then if they sign Panarin and another quality D man, then…

Chytil and Krav are the real deal. I think so is Hajek.

Shbumakov is he floater or will he go into the dirty part of the ice to make plays? The Rangers don’t need another softie.

So what are the cons with the electric winger from Chelyabinsk? Well, his skating is solid but not overly impressive. It would be unfair to call him anything less than solid, as it does not hinder him, but his stride can be choppy and he will likely never be a speedster. He is also not a strong defensive player.

I see a bottom 5 finish this year, so strap on your big boy pants and get ready to hide your NYR Sweater until 2020.
