A bit of a surprise this afternoon, as Bob McKenzie is reporting that the Rangers have placed defenseman Calle Andersson on unconditional waivers with the intention of mutually terminating his contract. Andersson was the Rangers’ 4th round pick in 2012, and had some pretty good upside as a smooth skating Swedish defenseman.
After a full season in Hartford last year, Andersson has skated in just four of Hartford’s games this year. The 22-year-old defenseman will likely head back to the Swiss league, where he last played.
With Andersson likely cutting ties with the organization, the remaining pieces from the 2012 draft are Brady Skjei and Boo Nieves. Not bad.
