NY Rangers Trade Rumors: Girardi and Staal on the move?

Per Pat Leonard, the Rangers are trying to move both Marc Staal and Dan Girardi.

This is certainly an interesting development, as all signs had pointed to one, if not both of them staying. Both are signed to long term deals with big cap hits and no-move clauses, but both carry name brand value.

This could be an interesting draft.

It’s reasonable. to assume that if this is true then Gorton has already received assurance that they would wave their no movement clauses. Otherwise why bother. Maybe after last year they may want out but the Rangers probably would not get a lot for either, except maybe draft picks.

I’d take a seventh rounder for the both of them.

Oh, and Leonard tweeted that it’s not believed that either have been asked to waive their NMC.

Even a decent pick would be great just to free up space for now and the future. I’ll believe it when I see it

Staal and Girardi are still very capable dman. They both have become scapegoats by many Ranger followers for their coaches’ brutal defensive system, and inconsistent play between the pipes.

Any team wanting to become a serious cup contender could use either Marc or Danny on their blueline.

They would certainly be better in a less complex system, however at this point in their careers they aren’t getting better, and it’s worth it to free up the cap space to get better.

The only way Gorton trades Girardi is if he makes a deal with the Devil(s) and sends his immortal soul to NJ.
