Trade deadline day two open thread

Yesterday was one of the more active day-before-deadline days we’ve seen in a while, as several significant moves went down. Roberto Luongo went to Florida, Andrew MacDonald went to Philadelphia, and Anaheim made a few moves that left a few people wondering why they essentially swapped Dustin Penner for Stephane Robidas. There were also four goalies moved yesterday. You can read the whole breakdown here.

Meanwhile, the Rangers were very quiet as they looked to hammer out a deal with Ryan Callahan. Nothing happened yesterday or last night, so he will either be re-signed (my guess) or traded if a deal cannot be worked out.

Use this as your open thread for the trade deadline. We will be updating this post with deals as they go down, with most recent deals on top. Moves the Rangers make will be bolded.

Final update: Matt Moulson (Sabres) has been traded to the Minnesota Wild along with Cody McCormick for Torrey Mitchell and draft picks. Reto Berra from Calgary to Colorado for a draft pick. Thomas Vanek from the Isles to Montreal for Stephen Collberg and a 2014 2nd round pick. David Legwand from Nashville to Detroit. Jaroslav Halak goes from Buffalo to Washington for Michal Neuvirth and a 2014 5th round pick.

3:10pm: Rangers acquire defenseman Raphael Diaz from Vancouver for a 2015 5th round pick.

2:45pm: Boston sends a 3rd rounder to Philly for Andrej Meszaros.

2:25pm: Tim Thomas has been traded from the Florida Panthers to the Dallas Stars for Dan Ellis. Nick Schultz goes from Edmonton to Columbus for a 5th round pick in 2014.

1:53pm: The Devils acquired Tuomo Ruutu from the Hurricanes for Andrei Loktionov and a conditional 2017 3rd round pick.

1:48pm: The Penguins acquire Marcel Goc from Florida for a 3rd (2015) and 5th round (2014) pick.

1:30pm: Marian Gaborik has indeed been traded to the LA Kings. Columbus gets Matt Frattin, a 2014 2nd round pick, and a 2014 3rd round pick.

12:50pm: The Nashville Predators have traded Devan Dubnyk to the Montreal Canadiens for future considerations.

12:39pm: The LA Kings have acquired Brayden McNabb and a pair of 2nd round picks (2014, 2015) from the Buffalo Sabres for Hudson Fashing and Nicolas Deslauriers.

12:28pm: The Ottawa Senators acquired Ales Hemsky from the Edmonton Oilers for a 5th round pick in 2014, and a 3rd round pick in 2015.

12:13pm: Chis Phillips has re-signed in Ottawa for two-years at $2.5 million per season.

11:20am: The Rangers have traded Ryan Callahan, a 2015 1st round pick and a 2014 2nd round pick (becomes a 1st if the Rangers make it to the conference finals) to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Martin St. Louis.

11:12am: The Sabres have claimed Cory Conacher off waivers.

11:00am: Bob McKenzie says that St. Louis to the Rangers has really ramped up. The Rangers are willing to send Cally, a 1st and a 2nd to Tampa for St. Louis (per McKenzie).

10:50am: The LA Kings have acquired Marian Gaborik from the Columbus Blue Jackets.

9:53am: Per Bob McKenzie, the Rangers are still discussing Martin St. Louis with Tampa Bay. No deal is imminent. Pierre LeBrun is noting that the gap closed between Ryan Callahan and the Rangers.

  • The Caps made a huge move by adding Penner. He will make a difference down the stretch. Help the Caps move up in the standings. Mark my words. The Rangers need a big righty stick. Stewart fills a few holes the Rangers have up front and for a cost ($4 mil per RFA) controlled price.

  • I know you guys don’t believe the Rangers need a new toy but for the playoff run & just in general this team isn’t tough enough up front. The Caps added some Braun I suggest Sather do the same. AV is a big believer in a good L/R mix. Stewart fills a few holes and now that he’s in Buffalo makes him easier to grab. I think it’s a smart move as long as we hold that 1st round pick in this draft.

  • Kessler doesn’t want to come to NY? PERFECT!!! The guy is a total prima donna. Now St. Louis, there is a first rate citizen & character player.

  • I look for Marty St. Louis to be a Ranger by the end of the day. Thinking it may cost us a first round pick and a top prospect.

    • Not worth it… I’ve had enough giving up first rounders… I understand sometimes you have to pull the trigger, but it’s not here… I love MSL, have loved to watch him play for years and have been saying he’s one of the best in the league for years… However, he alone will not put us over the top this year (especially if PIT or BOS can get Kessler or some other addition). While I hope this team gets back on track, it isn’t out of the question they falter only being a few points to the good in this playoff race…

Unless this 1st is conditional on a CUP I want no part of the deal.

      • What would a potential package look like then? The Rangers can’t give TB a player comparable to MSL in a deal.

        • I honestly don’t know. The Rangers want to give Cally (if they can’t re-sign him), which isn’t enough straight up. Hagelin is a guy TBL would like, but that’s too much for MSL without TBL adding.

          • Heard that a 1st rounder would be going to TB…. if true, is that Callahan, 1st round pick + ___________? Or just Callahan and the pick? I’m all about MSL…. and am on the fence about paying Callahan any more than 6×6 (without any no movement crap)… but there is no way I’d want a guy like Miller included if Callahan and a pick isn’t enough to get it done.

This deadline has been pretty crazy. I’m pretty nervous about the Rangers being too hasty here.

          • McKenzie’s thing? He said it was on the table. I don’t think Cally is something TBL wants at the moment. I’d move off of Cally for MSL.

Hagelin is more the type of guy they are looking for.

    • It’s been rumored they were looking to trade Gaborik once he was healthy. That means Vanek to the Pens is going to happen (I believe).
