Rangers ink Benoit Pouliot

This is a bit late, but the Rangers have inked forward Benoit Pouliot to a one year, $1.3 million deal. Pouliot has been one of the top P/60 guys in the league over the past few years, and was at 2.44 P/60 last season. He will serve as a depth forward to provide tertiary scoring. In the grand scheme of things, having a guy that can put up over 2.0 P/60 for less that $2 million is a solid signing.

The Rangers also signed defenseman Aaron Johnson to a one year, $600,000 deal. Johnson is likely depth defense and will play in Hartford this season.

  • I also like this signing. He’s got a lot of skill, perfect 3rd line scorer.

Where are the Rangers finding the cap room for these moves? Small $, but they have to find some room somewhere with all the RFAs to sign.

  • Moore & Pouliot are very nice upgrades over Powe & Asham, and at less their cost as well. With the loss of Powe, Asham and Clowe, though, we’ve gotten a little softer, and that will definitely be an issue in our division. Let’s hope there is more work that will be done.

  • I know everyone is concerned about the roster. Folks are seeming to discount what’s in the pipe.

JT miller will be back up probably as a winger or dangled for a bigger fish.

Kreider. Lindbergh. Fast. Mcilrath. St croix. Cristo.

New coach. Man it’s going to be exciting.
