Marc Staal Returns Today

As speculated by myself yesterday and debated between myself and Chris today, defenseman Marc Staal will return to the lineup today for the Winter Classic. He will play on the third pairing with Stu Bickel. No word on who will sit, but my hunch is either Ryan McDonagh (flu) or Jeff Woywitka (healthy).

This is big news for the Rangers, who have been without Staal the entire season. Staal will see limited minutes, but it is great to see him back.

Been dying to see this team with a healthy blue line all year. Big step towards that today.

Same here, lets just hope it’s not as rushed as it feels.

Same here. They’ve been this good without Staal and Sauer. Just wait til Sauer is back. It’s going to be fantastic.

I am not happy about this. Yes, Im happy that everyone thinks hes ready to play, but it feels rushed and I feel that they could have chosen an ‘easier’ game for him to make his season debut.

You have to trust in the trainers that cleared him.

I hope that he is fully healthy and ready to play because I think Staal’s return makes us that much better. I don’t like the timing because it is after all the Winter Classic. My hopes are it is not a publicity stunt

Not a chance were the NYR going to risk Staal’s health or the NYR season to help NBC or the NHL get better TV ratings.

Staal played because everyone involved agreed he was NHL ready
