Scratched tonight: Chris Drury (finger), Vinny Prospal (knee), and Derek Boogaard (healthy).

STATE OF THE BLUESHIRTS: Tom Renney makes his return to the Garden this afternoon. Renney took over the Rangers head coaching duties after the fire sale in 2004, and remained until he was fired in 2009. Under Renney, the Rangers made the playoffs for the first time in nine years when the lockout ended, and made the playoffs for the first three years after the lockout. Renney was replaced by John Tortorella on February 23, 2009. The Renney/Tortorella Rangers also made the playoffs that season. Henrik Lundqvist still has the flu, so Martin Biron will get the start tonight.

CRAZY THOUGHT: Renney gets a standing ovation.

  1. The victory against the Oilers was the most exciting and satisfying of the season thus far. Doesn’t hurt that Edmonton is a young, struggling team who lost their composure. Feel bad for Renney, but hey, he’s got employment. It was both fun and a relief to see Gabby’s elite-level game return, and it was also great to see Frolov finally put up some G’s. Love that Feds continues to play above his salary level, contrary to what certain naysayers predicted early on. He’s been one of the Rangers most consistent two-way bottom-six offensemen. And as overpaid as Boogie might be, he hasn’t lost a fight yet. Nice. Looking forward to a tough battle against Malkinstein, Squid and crazy-eyes Orpik…

  2. I watched about 25 total minutes of this game (flipping back and forth with the Jets), and of course I saw zero goals scored. Go figure.
