Larry Brooks from the Post is reporting that the Rangers are in talks with the Stars to bring Sean Avery back to NY. The process is a long one, considering Avery would have to be assigned to Hartford (Dallas has no AHL affiliate) then pass through re-entry waivers. This waiver deal would also have to be done by March 4 in order for Avery to play in the playoffs.

Memo to Sather: NO! For the love of all that is holy in this world, NO! His $2 million cap hit ($4 million split between Dallas/NY for re-entry waivers) for the next three years is too much. They need to resign Dubie, Zherdev, Dawes, Korpo and Callahan this offseason (that’s just the RFAs too), and Staal and Girardi next offseason. Also, considering his comments about the Rangers, specifically on Steve Valiquette and Dubie, earlier in the year, I highly doubt he would be welcomed back with open arms to the locker room.

A move to bring Avery back would not meet the Rangers need for a top-six forward, and considering the cap hit, would stifle any other moves the Rangers may need to make (ie: Keith Tkachuk).

I’m sure Nick is happy about this news though, I don’t think he ever got over his man-crush on Avery.
