Game 69: Nice

The Rangers are in Edmonton in a big tankathon game against the Oilers tonight. Per Colin Stephenson, both Lias Andersson and Tony DeAngelo were bag skating this morning, so they are out of the lineup. This leads me to believe that Staal/Pionk will be reunited tonight and get a bunch of time against McDavid. That bodes well for the Rangers and their draft position.

That said, the Oilers are #bad too. Their lineup would be worse than New Jersey’s AHL lineup if not for McDavid, and the Oilers are actually trying! They were too scared to sell at the deadline because the entire organization is shell-shocked from Peter Chiarelli’s trades. This is just a whole lot of bad, and they are wasting the best player in the league. Sad, really.

Chytil has been flying lately, been on the puck, looking for him to have a big night.

Did I miss something? Why is Hajek in the lineup if he separated his shoulder???

With all the bad defensive play going on why the hell is ADA scratched AGAIN … and Lias too, why, why, why? Ours not to reason why, ours is to do or die.

No Tanto, Anthony was Del Zottoed tonight. Instead we get to watch Claesson attempt to decapitate his own goalie. 2-0 oil.

Trivia question: Ryan Strome is one of two players in NHL history to skate in 18+ games with both Edmonton and the Rangers in a single season. Who is the other one?

This is tricky because the 1994 trade deadline acquisitions don’t count. Neither do off-season acquisitions.

    I guess Jeff Beukeboom.

Oh man was he ever fun. If the good Lord had given him the ability to hit the net more with his booming shots he could have been a legend.

What is up with Rangers defensemen and their goalies? Hank was injured multiple times by Mac and Staal and now Freddy tries to decapitate Georg. He is lucky it was just a goal…

Soon as they showed the replay I knew they were gonna change it. Georgi got lucky it didn’t get under the mask or neck. Sux again.

First goal the PK was terrible … thank you Staal-Pionk, because that combo works so well … Second goal our defenseman clearly interferes with our goalie. What’s next. I wonder what will happen next, perhaps one of the d’ can put his glove over a puck in the crease?

Cannot wait to hear Georgi’s explanation of why he hightailed it off the ice. Quinn’s face was priceless…😄

Doesn’t it just burn to see a crappy organization like the Oilers have a McDavid and a Draisaitl? It’s like they’re the Penguins or the Blackhawks, one of these days they may actually be a really good team.

It burns me more to know Edmonton had 4 number 1 overall picks in the last ten years, and are still garbage despite being fed all these picks by Bettman’s fixed “lottery”.

For everyone who doubts the importance of defense and goaltending, Edmonton is living proof of what really matters in the NHL.

With 30 number 1 picks ( probably 5 – 1st overall ) in the last 8-10 years they should be a bit better
