Game 62: Post Zuccarello matinee

The Rangers have traded Mats Zuccarello. Kevin Hayes and Adam McQuaid are next. But there’s little time to stew over it, as the Rangers have another matinee today. The defending champion Caps are on the docket in Washington, and this is going to be a tough one to watch.

Tough not just because of the matchup, but tough because now we know Zuccarello isn’t going to dress for the Rangers anymore. I mean, we knew it before, but now it’s official. It’s a little tough to focus on the game at hand, especially when this could get ugly fast.

Plus Carl Hagelin now plays for Washington. Ugh.

Caps lineup:

Alex Ovechkin-Evgeni Kuznetsov-Tom Wilson
Jakub Vrana-Nicklas Backstrom-TJ Oshie
Andre Burakovsky-Lars Eller-Brett Connolly

The Rangers could use a Tom Wilson player on their roster. Not only does he bring an intimating physical edge but can score goals too.

That and a few D men , a sniper and a strong winger!

Needed a save from Hank there but that coverage was less than ideal vs the reigning champs.

I’m more afraid of the Caps starting to take runs at these guys

I like the way Brady Skjei is using his big body in this tilt. He also netted himself another goal. The Caps are a heavy team and will run over their opposition if they don’t push back.

Brooks Orpik is a piece of garbage, can’t wait until he’s out of the NHL. Too bad Brickley didn’t KO him.

A tad of defense and a shoot first mentality in OT and that’s a different result. Good for them to be competitive. Reminded me a ton of that Pitt game we lost a couple weeks ago. A lot of goals and no defense – tough nights for Georgi and Hank but entertaining games with no quit.

Just seen that ! Let’s hope he gets the Stars going for a good few playoff rounds and signs !

Wow. Watching Hank in tears during the postgame makes me think it would have been a lot smarter to go back to Georgi today. He was a mess and that was hard to watch. Easy to forget theses guys are people not commodities. That brought it home.

They are Pro’s , they know the deal from the start.

I don’t disagree with that. But emotions are a tricky thing to just ignore. Hank obviously was not as focused as he needed to be. I’d guess a combo of things including Zucc being traded and the reality of what they will look like for the next couple of years and effectively the end of his career. Would be nice if he could just shut it off but then he wouldn’t be human…

If he keeps that up Dallas just might want to resign him and then Gorton looks like the ultimate genius.

Zucc playing on a line with Seguin and Radulov and they are on fire. Dallas has the cap space to sign the gifted Hobbit from Norway.
