Game 32: Sunday matinee against Vegas

The Rangers, fresh off a blown 3-0 lead on Friday night, are back in action this afternoon against the defending Western Conference Champions Vegas Golden Knights. I spelled that out because it is still weird for me that an expansion team won the West last year.

The last time these two teams faced off at MSG, the Rangers won a spirited game that actually saved Alain Vigneault’s job. Well, it saved his job for the rest of the season. This time around, the Rangers are sliding and Vegas is surging. The Blueshirts are competitive, but Vegas is riding some wave right now. This might get ugly.

Oh and hey, old friend Nick Holden returns to MSG tonight.

MC will probably chime in with some stupid remark … lol. Skjei is really just getting worse it seems. Maybe he’s trying to do too much. Stastny goal should have never happened. He got caught out a few times leading to odd man rushes. Figured he would have turned it around but nope.

If I were to chime in with a remark, it would be one that would highlight your idiocy once again: your initial comment was a reply to Spozo, not Sittoo. You read as well as you think, or write, evidently.

Another remark I might make: I resent the fact that you take oxygen away from the rest of us on the planet.

Luckily for you, Sieve, I’m well enough into the day’s beers to not make these remarks.

Defensively overrated and offensively inept, yet Jesper gets a lot minutes on the ice. I am looking forward to watching what the other Rangers can do with the generous amount of playing time that Quinn gives to Fast.

He’s trying to be a puck possession type forward lol. He’s not big, fast or strong enough to be that in this league night in and night out. He won’t be able to rely on hands to get through the DZ and NZ. What they said on draft night about him was 100% spot on.

These stupid points in OT for the Rangers is just not going to accomplish anything…no top 5 pick and no playoffs. Start trading now and let’s get a top 5 pick because if we go to the playoffs we are gonna be swept in the first round. For crying out loud being a top 3 pick is not such a bad thing considering where we are at

Andersson cost the Rangers this game today with that terrible turnover. Quinn doesn’t think his skating or conditioning is good enough. I give him one summer to work on that skating or else there’s no changing that. He’s going have to realize that he needs less muscles and weight to him to become more mobile in this league. It’ll probably throw his whole game off since he’s about that grit but that would be the next step for him to become a legit NHL player.

Skjei is just so bad. Hopefully his goal will help add to his trade value, I just can’t with him anymore. Say what you want but Staal is a much better defender than he is. Pionk and ADA have better 200 ft games. Skjei makes it so hard on his partner.

Vesey needs to put in 200 ft work. He should be the catalyst for this team’s forecheck. He’s not skilled enough to just wait for the puck to arrive or to just try and score some goals.

I thought Delangelo had a good hockey game today and Hayes is a beast. Leaky battled hard and gave his team a chance to win as all great goaltenders do

ADA was getting screwed over all game long in his own end by his partner. He can never rely on reversing the flow of the play due to Skjei not knowing when to be in front of the net or around the boards.

“Andersson cost the Rangers this game today with that terrible turnover”

Honestly, how does this game come down to one play? The Rangers started the game being out attempted 15 to 1, their one attempt going in the net.

And the rest of the game wasn’t much different. Maybe we should thank the Rangers for deciding to play 10-15 minutes of the game while Hank does all the rest of the work.

Losing is one thing because of lack of talent, but not giving effort is unacceptable.

Leaky was spectacular today, he really should waive his NTC and go to a contending team and a chance at the Cup. He is no longer a fit here, don’t ruin your legacy and instead go add to it.

Leather, as he’s said repeatedly he’s not going anywhere. And I don’t think staying is going to ruin his legacy. It’s going to be a rough year, but if they are smart and make some judicious moves they can be in the mix next year. I know you would prefer a full tank for Hughes but there is no guarantee that they would get him and even if they did there’s no guarantee that he makes them a contending team. Let Hank’s work ethic and competitive fire show the kids how to play the game.

I actually prefer Cozens over Hughes…but wouldn’t cry if we got Hughes

The rookies are playing well with limited time,,,,but how they are being played hinders their development in my opinion. The only ones Quinn is developing well are Howden, Pionk and now ADA…Howden gets good minutes in critical times. He’s starting to play Chytil. Coach isn’t the problem, the players don’t know if they are a playoff team or not. Some guys are waiting for the hammer to fall and they get traded. Uncertainty is best way to describe the Rangers from top down.

1st period “meh” … 2nd period a disaster (not epic because of Hank) 3rd period they looked pretty damn good. Hank was incredible throughout most of the game.

More and more I’m moving away from the idea that this team needs a total rebuild, what they need is the proper renovation which means cutting out the dead weight and replacing it with quality players. The more I hear we need to trade Hayes or Mika or Kreider the more I’m convinced they should be kept, at least for a few more seasons — they, along with Buch and Zucc are our offense. Chytil will join them sooner rather than later (replacing Zucc). Kravtsov will add to the mix next year, perhaps we add a Stone or a Panarin …. and contrary to all the negativity I hear about Andersson, there’s a lot to like about his game. His development has been slower than we all would like, but that’s probably our own fault for buying into the “he’s the more NHL ready” prospect. Yes, bad mistake by him that led to the 3rd goal — but either you accept the renovation and playing the youngsters while allowing them to make mistakes so they grow, or you don’t accept the so-called rebuild at all.

It’s the defense that needs the most retooling. Get rid of Shattenkirk, sell Skjei if you can get a good return (if not, find a way to get him off the 1st pairing — he’s trying to do too much), keep ADA and Pionk, but don’t let Pionk kill penalties, sign Claesson to a multi-year contract, dump Smith and McQuaid … not sure what we can do with Staal other than continue to limit his ice time. Hajek and Miller can’t come soon enough.

If Pionk and ADA can get some D partners than I look forward most to seeing their development. I rather have Quaid over Skjei or Smith. As I said all summer long, I felt like all it would take is Miller to have a solid rookie college year for the FO to put him in the AHL.

Mint, if Miller finishes the season as strong as he started it, then the FO has to question whether another year in College is the most beneficial place for him to play.

Well Tanto – if the current front office is the one you are referring to as needing to question whether he needs another year, then I guess we are screwed.

But let’s not forget the kid might just want to get a degree.

If I was him I’d get to New York on the first plane out of Dodge….

I didn’t forget him, nor did I forget Crawley or Lundqvist … just thinking they might need a little more time than Hajek and perhaps Miller.

Tanto the make over on defence will happen, when the kids on the farm are ready for primetime. I agree that medal tosser will eventually make the club, he just has learning to do. Claesson has been ok but no better then the other Rangers veteran dmen you mentioned. I see no reason to sign him long-term and burn up capspace.

Sign Hayes for sure, he is a beast.

I’m not ready to panic just yet folks!

Within the next two years, three at the most, we will have very sound defense that will play together for years to come.

Hajek, Lindgren are at the Pack, ready to make a move up. Rykov comes over in February, tough kid, big boy, I like the sounds of him on the roster starting possibly next year. My favorite is K Miller, the kid is a stud, big, strong, fast, soft hands, fast and can score. Right there we have four very good kids, add to them Pionk, and ADA, also Freddy as our 7th man, bingo, solid defense for years to come.

We draft wings this draft, right handed shots if possible, and incorporate Kratsov in the offense. Go get a veteran to show the way for the youngsters, and you have a winning formula.

My get rid of list would be Smith, Shjei if possible, Shatty, Staal, Mc Quade, on the defense. Then I’d rid us of Hayes, Zucc, Name, replaced with kids, or one of the vets mentioned earlier, possibly Stone, and you have a true Cup contender for years!!! That’s my wish list, and it could be done rather easily!!!!!!!

    • Dec 16, 2018 at 7:38 pm

I agree Walt …. BUT — Why get rid of Hayes? What has Hayes done lately to indicate anything other than he’s coming into his own, that this is his PRIME. Is it our job to develop players for the sake of other teams? Hey why not get rid of Kreider as well, he’s older and also in his prime. Both these guys have at least 3-4 years of prime left in them, let them LEAD the younger players. A fast ship without a good rudder and captain is worthless.

Hayes will cost $7 million annually and ask for 5 years at least. That’s too much term and too much salary.

For those who think he’ll stay/give discount: he held out successfully against the Blackhawks to become a free agent and subsequently a Ranger, giving up a year of his playing career to get into a situation more to his liking.

        Tanto

        GREED!

He will want a load of money, and term. Why do you think he signed only for one year? He is a solid player, but for what he’ll want in money, and more importantly term, ship him off for a #1, and whatever else we can get for him!!!!! Nothing personal, just business, which many fail to realize is the whole purpose of fielding a team in the first place………………
