Rangers recall Steven Fogarty

As expected, the Rangers have recalled another body from Hartford to replace Vinni Lettieri. That body is Steven Fogarty, who is having a pretty strong season thus far with the Wolf Pack. In 19 games, Fogarty has a line of 7-7-14. Fogarty isn’t really noted for his offensive abilities, so the offense is a little surprising.

Fogarty will likely slide into a 4C role. He is strong on faceoffs and is known for his defensive play, so that spot probably suits him best. Fogarty was the Rangers’ 3rd rounder in 2011. The 25 year old has likely peaked in terms of development, so this is a shot to see if he can cut it at the NHL level.

Good for him! He’s toiled long and hard for this albeit limited opportunity to show his stuff at the NHL level. A lesser individual would have probably given up at this point. I know the Rangers FO always hoped he would have been a bit more productive offensively, like a 3rd line center … but they never lost faith in the other aspects of his game.

The Rangers will benefit from his face off abilities at the very least.

Worth a shot. Never a bad thing to have a defensively sound 4C who can win faceoffs.
