Rangers announce Traverse City Tournament roster

August 27, 2018, by

The Rangers have announced their Traverse City Tournament roster. The roster has the guys you’d expect, including the 2017 first rounders and most of the kids acquired at the 2018 trade deadline.

Notably absent are the 2018 draftees, most likely because they are committed elsewhere (KHL, SHL, etc). Funny that Martin Brodeur’s son got an invite. That should be interesting.

Let’s see what Sean day has…I remember last year in this tournament he was awful…Im also surprised that Lias and Chytil are in this tournament

Let’s see about Sean Day…Last years Tournament he was awful …I am surprised that Andersson and Chytil are there…I figured they graduated

    • Mintgecko says:

Yeah I wonder if Chytil or Anderson would play wing? Sean Day just needs to be good enough to play in the AHL and then I’ll call for a celebration. I wanted to see him start his development against AHL talent last year.

      • Reenavipul says:

They have 5 centers & left wingers on the roster and only 3 RW(1 of which is an invite), so I’m expecting to see a number of combos where it’s more like F1 & F2 which changes depending on who has the puck on zone entry, with F3 is the high player.

Day wasn’t bad in the tourney(had a goal) but as a continuation of everything AV touching turning to sh*t, the D scheme was a total mess.

  3. Peter says:

That is a better roster than the one fielded last year. That speaks to the vast improvement in their system even without the 2018 draftees in attendance.

Notably, Kravtsov has been playing in the Under 20 tournament.

  4. SalMerc says:

I see at least 4-5 players who can really impact their ability to make the big club by having a strong tournament. Two that stick out are Howden and Meskaden. These 2 in-particular can probably lengthen their NYR try-outs by having great showings.

I also think that if our kids are that good, there is no reason this team cannot win it all. If however, they stumble, it means we still have a year or two more before these kids are ready for the show.

    • Township Rebellion says:

      Very hopeful for Howden

      • Mintgecko says:

Yeah I been in the Howden camp ever since he got traded here. I’ll add Ronning and Hajek to that list of hopeful stand outs.

I wouldn’t judge alot with these games. Their camp and pre season games might be a 180 for the better or worst. If I’m not mistaken Vesey did pretty well in these, than while Hayes had a quiet tournament back in 2014. Oscar Lindberg lit up for like 5 goals in 4 games with a few assits on the side back in 2013. After that it took him about 3 years to get a consistent role with the Rangers before he got dumped in the expansion.

        • Reenavipul says:

Vesey did some nice things, but the question was whether or not the things he was doing could happen against NHL competition. Turns out, not really. Lindberg was 22 when he played, so he had a big advantage being physically mature.

You really need to kill it at TC to show you’re NHL ready. Skjei turned heads his 1st year(easily the best player on the ice) and had to do a year in Hartford.

Ronning was a mess at TC last season, I think between his role at the tourney and what they were going to do with him in Vancouver had him thinking on ice, which is always bad.

For him to do things, he’s gonna have to be a better, cheaper version of Fast: Hell on the forecheck responsible on the backcheck and can be willing to play on any line.

Howden is likely a bottom 6 forward who could develop into your matchup center.

      The goaltending doesn’t inspire me.
