Rangers return Vinny Lettieri to Hartford

January 8, 2018, by

The Rangers have returned Vinny Lettieri to the Hartford Wolf Pack. The winger was recaleld on December 28, playing in three games with the big club. He recorded a goal and an assist with eight shots on goal.

It seems odd that the club would send him back down after a strong showing, but I honestly can’t figure out how this team makes roster decisions anymore. What I do know is this won’t be the only time we see Lettieri in New York.

They don’t play for a week… why keep him up?

    • Hatrick Swayze says:

Correct. Likely sent down for the bye week and will return for next game.

      • Stevem says:

Pack have 3 games this week.. get the kid ice time and recall him before Saturdays game

        • sherrane says:

Their 3rd game is Saturday. He might play Wednesday and Friday and come back to NY on Saturday.

    • roadrider says:

Yeah, there’s nothing to see here. Might as well keep the kid playing and ready to go after the bye week.

    • Dave says:

This is a good point that I forgot about.

      • Eddie!Eddie!Eddie! says:

Kudos for Dave for realizing he made a mistake here. This is a total “nothing burger”, and only the “run AV out of town with torches in hand” crowd would make this out to be anything more than it is. The kid needs to play. The Rangers aren’t playing this week. End of story.

Now, if he’s not back before Saturday, maybe that’s a story. But that depends on Hayes’s injury and who the Rangers want at the moment as their 13F.

        • Richter1994 says:

Bro!! Back on a day when we are blogging about the coach. 🙂

Hope all is well my friend.

          • Eddie!Eddie!Eddie! says:

Trump has been keeping me busy this past week. :). Next few weeks will be spotty for me I suspect. Then out of the country for awhile. So will check in when I can.

But I vented all my frustrations out in the previous page! 🙂

            • Bloomer says:

You missed some really great blogs Eddie by some really great people. No fake news on this site.

              • Eddie!Eddie!Eddie! says:

Lol! No…..everything written here is 100% factual. No doubt. 🙂

          C’mon baby light my fire…

  2. Mancunian Candidate says:

All to keep Paul Carey in the lineup instead. Sigh.

    • tanto says:

Yeah, that’s called ASSET MANAGEMENT 101. If Carey gets sent down we’ll lose him to waivers. We can’t afford that if another forward or two get injured (and most teams would do the exact same thing as we’re doing).

      • Mancunian Candidate says:

So…sending a healthy player to the minors and exposing him to the risk of being hurt in the AHL solves that problem? It’s a mighty big assumption that Lettieri comes back to the big club in a week, given that the coach of the Rangers is Alain Vigneault.

        • Spozo says:

It’s getting funny what people will say now in order to blast the coach.

          • Mancunian Candidate says:

Equally funny is what people say when they attack posters who are simply stating the obvious: AV is past his expiration date with this team; they’ve been outshot by nearly 100 shots this year while somehow maintaining a positive goal differential, because of great goaltending; his treatment of Buchnevich is absurd; and Vigneault’s defensive system amplifies the weaknesses of this group of defensemen, who aren’t good at shot suppression or positioning. But please—tell us all why we should be so damn pleased with this coach.

            • Spozo says:

And that’s fine. I don’t think anyone is arguing that Buch needs to be in the lineup. But it’s this BS where people just start making things up in order to further their narrative is what really gets to me.

You’re really saying that sending Letteiri down to the minors while the team has a week off is awful because he might get hurt? Why did they let Anderson and Chytil play in the WJC? They could have gotten hurt!!

              • Mancunian Candidate says:

No, I’m saying I don’t believe Lettieri’s automatically coming back—all because of Mr Vigneault.

              • Eddie!Eddie!Eddie! says:

If he doesnt come back, it will be because of Mr. Gorton, not Mr. V. It depends on Hayes, depends on Buch, depends on whether Lettieri is better served long term getting more regular time in the A. Might be better to have Holland as 13F. Maybe.

I hope he does come back. Liking what I see and imagine….he likes to shoot!!!!! I thought the Rangers frowned on that skill set. 🙂

        • tanto says:

None of that is the ISSUE. The issue is about losing Carey … and yes, when you’re dealing with new young players you want them to play as much as possible. They did this with Buch as well.

The issues you’re looking at have nothing to do with this move, they have to do with AV and the coaching staff. I don’t agree with his clear preference for vets over younger players as I suspect you don’t, but sending a kid down to get games while the main club is on vacation has nothing to do with the coaching staff bias.

          • Spozo says:

            You made 2 mistakes Tanto.

            1) you didn’t just say “something happened in Rangers Land. I’m not going to look at the big picture. I’m just going to say the move is bad and AV sucks and is the reason this move happened”

            2) you said “coaching STAFF”. Everyone knows AV runs this show with an iron fist and doesn’t consult any of his assistant coaches or the AHL coaching staff. He especially doesn’t discuss anything the GM that has to sign on the dotted line for any movement of players to occur. ANYTHING that happens with this team is because of one man.

Please keep these 2 points in mind anytime you care to analyze anything involving the Rangers.

    • CTfan says:

Anything for the gum chewing moron to keep DD in the lineup. He just loves small, slow and no talent. But, the suckups here keep kissing his feet.

      • Eddie!Eddie!Eddie! says:

And the haters here keep dreaming up mythical narratives that don’t exist in real life. DD has been fine and has been producing. Indeed, he has OVERACHIEVED expectations thus far (2-6-8 since 12/1). Buch has UNDERACHIEVED expectations (2-4-6 since 12/1).

You seem obsessed with his gum chewing. Would you be happier if he threw some sticks or water bottles instead? Would that make him more acceptable to you? Please!

  3. pas44 says:

    “strong showing”

    You Got That Right!

  4. Spozo says:

It’s so the kid get playing time while the Rangers have a bye week.

But I forgive you Dave. There’s no way you could come to that conclusion when your thought process starts with “AV sucks. Now I will evaluate what just happened”.

  5. JERRY MALEY says:

Where is Becky who predicted the rangers would give up 6 goals to LVK?

  6. Richter1994 says:

I have to say that this is because of the week off.

But we’ll be watching a week from now, lol.

    • Spozo says:

Right now they don’t have an extra healthy forward. I can’t imagine they wouldn’t recall someone once the week is over.

  7. Bloomer says:

Lettieri will be back. If the Rangers don’t start getting it going, there will be plenty of job openings after the trade deadline.

    • Eddie!Eddie!Eddie! says:

Yep….they just got to find a way to end this seemingly endless one game losing streak! 🙂

      • Bloomer says:

Lost to Hawks and Vegas. Barely got by a very bad Coyote team.

        • Eddie!Eddie!Eddie! says:

Yes, truly a dismal situation. The Preds lost to the Coyotes the game before we played them. The Caps lost to Arizona weeks earlier. The Devils were smoked by the Yotes last month. As for Vegas, they are practically unbeatable at home, so no shame losing to them.

Even your guy Torts is not immune, getting beat by lowly Colorado, Edmonton and Ottawa and absolutely smoked by the Bolts and Bruins, all in recent weeks. It’s hockey. It happens.

The Rangers are sputtering a bit at the moment—the way pretty much every team does at some point during the season. It’s only a huge concern when it happens to the Rangers.

          • Bloomer says:

It’s a concern when there are 4 teams only a few points behind them who are knocking at the door.

            • Richter1994 says:

Thank God the other division is a disaster.

            • Eddie!Eddie!Eddie! says:

Every team in the Metro essentially has the same concern. Only nine points separate first from last place. So the Rangers are really no better or worse off than most anyone else at the moment.
