Rangers invite Bobby Farnham to camp

August 23, 2017, by

Bobby Farnham

The Rangers have invited forward Bobby Farnham to camp on a PTO. PTOs aren’t surprising, but Farnham as a choice certainly is. He’s a pure enforcer who doesn’t do much else.

A PTO isn’t a guaranteed contract. But AV loves his enforcers. So….I dunno.

This guy is a bum. Nauseating.

  2. Andy says:

maybe they can invite a center too? sheesh

  3. Reenavipul says:

An enforcer who nobody’s afraid of. Where have I heard that before.

  4. Peter says:

Maybe he’s there for comic relief?

So on the one hand, there is one segment of folks out here who say the Rangers are the softest team in the league, that we get regularly pushed around, we won’t defend Hank when he gets pushed around, etc.—and ALL of that is because AV does NOT value toughness and wants his team to play like figure skaters.

Then in the same breath, we hear AV loves his enforcers, that kind of player is a dinoasaur, it’s a waste of a roster space. I’m just so confused. 🙂

I’m just kidding. I have no idea why they would invite this guy, Well, look at it this way, at least that pretty much guarantees Glass won’t get a PTO, right? 🙂

Something happened in Ranger land…… AV sucks.

Shouldn’t you know this by now?

      • AWDS says:

Lol, AV brings this crap upon himself (assuming he was the one clamoring for a Smoothie Specialist)…. Bobby Farnham would be a head-scratching invite for almost every team in the NHL.

  6. DAVID k says:

He is an antagonizer not an enforcer don’t get the two confused. He would just be on the ice to draw penalties.

    • Egelstein says:

Perfect way to put it. This guy is actually a downgrade from Tanner Glass in every way. That’s saying something. He takes more stupid penalties, blows even more hits, and doesn’t even bring the “good in the locker room” narrative.

    • Jerry says:

      David,
      EXCELLENT distinction.

  7. Al Dugan says:

Relax, Guys. It’s a PTO. NOT A THREE year deal.

    • Egelstein says:

While I don’t think anything will come of it, personally…the reason people are triggered by this is because this dude shouldn’t be getting a PTO. From any NHL team. Thus, even inviting him leads to a general concern about what the heck the front office is thinking here.

      • Chris A says:

Bringing in Farnham on a PTO is really a non move and simply gives the organization one more body to run out in the preseason. 6 preseason games in 9 days means the Rangers need almost two sets of forwards to swap in and out of the lineup.

        • Egelstein says:

Sure. Still. Bobby Farnham. Many other options who might actually show some skill that could more tangibly help the AHL club, for example, are out there. It’s not that they used a PTO on a player who (I sure hope) has absolutely no chance of making the NHL team…it’s that they used said PTO on a player like Farnham, specifically. I don’t think many fans are outraged/upset…but the “WTF?” factor is definitely high with this move.

          • Chris A says:

Sure, I can’t argue with the WTF factor.

Maybe the Rangers specifically wanted a punching bag for camp, and Farnham was the only one willing to sign a PTO here? Let’s be honest, the number of Rangers that will drop the gloves in a preseason game is small to non-existent (not saying that’s good or bad, just stating a fact).

And a PTO player wouldn’t help the AHL team. Once Farnham gets cut, he won’t get sent down or put on waivers. He will be released from his PTO and become a FA again. The only way he can help Hartford is if the Rangers sign him, pass him through waivers, and he reports to Hartford … or the Wolfpack sign him directly.

What evs, we will forget about him by Sep 30th, if not sooner.

I’m hearing the Rangers might be the one to land Kerfoot. Sharks are in it big time too.

    • Egelstein says:

I won’t be heartbroken if Kerfoot lands elsewhere. I think/suspect Andersson is already better.

      • Richter1994 says:

Kerfoot did land somewhere else, but the depth would not have hurt if he signed here.

I was totally wrong. I guess I inserted my (Ker)foot into my mouth.

  9. SalMerc says:

I actually would rather see this guy than Jagr

    • Egelstein says:

I sincerely hope you are speaking only in terms of the money it would take to get one vs. the other. Even then, I’d disagree with you…but that is the only possible reason I could imagine for this statement here.

    • Richter1994 says:

Hitting the “sauce” so early my friend? 🙂

      • SalMerc says:

This guy, I believe is to get the young kids ready for the NHL, not to make the team. Jagr, if he were there, would take a NHL roster spot. I highly doubt this guy makes the cut, but he will teach the kids to skate with their head up.

        No sauce, just Sal-logic.

  10. Mancunian Candidate says:

Boooooooo, Farnham is a garbage player. Wonder which starting Ranger lineup member he’ll injure with a cheapshot in practice. This guy’s not even worth the cost of his equipment.

  11. Mikeyyy says:

Eh…more agitator than enforcer. Enforcers win fights agitators start them. Has a glass jaw….pun intended.

  12. Al Hirschen says:

Brett Gallant may also be getting a PTO
