The biggest need for the Rangers is to consistently play like they did on Tuesday night. If they do –meaning their process is solid– then they certainly have more skill than the Habs up and down the lineup.

I think the winner tonight takes the series, so this is a huge one for both teams. The Rangers have had the edge in net all series, with Henrik Lundqvist outplaying Carey Price, but it’s been the process of the 18 skaters that has made the difference.

Exactly! This is what just drives me nuts about this team. You MUST capitalize on grade A chances vs this goalie….you MUST.

But this is the pass first, no real finishers, no-margin-for error Rangers we are talking about. If we lose, this is the reason why. That’s not about coaching. FINISH for crying out loud!!!!!!

      As you just said…my heart.

Hank looking sharp again…but if it’s me, you got to think about putting Raanta in, right? Just to get the team fired up. 🙂

Put it right into Price’s pad. You have to score on a chance like that. Then Buch passes when he has Price moving side to side and an open net, what’s with them?

Limited finishing instincts. We are a Tarasenko type away (and maybe Shattenkirk too) from being legitimately dangerous. In the meantime, we will enjoy what we have and the run that we are on!

Bingo bro. I love Nash but he’s not the finisher that he was. We don’t have enough finishers.

The Rangers could be playing horribly but were one shot from Jagr away from a goal. A true sniper.

There is no question that no one on the Rangers has “scorer’s hands.”

He’s got 1/3 of his regular season output in 1/15 the games!! Sign him for a 10 year deal!!

He’s a nice player, but a fungible one. You have to plug any jamoke on an ELC in there to keep the salary structure intact. You don’t bridge him, you deal him and turn a late round pick into a mid round one.

      This isn’t rocket science.

    • Apr 20, 2017 at 7:53 pm
      Permalink

Because our forwards are painfully overrated, that’s why. Our defense is what it is at the moment. We knew that going into the season. Can’t expect Hank to be perfect every game. As I said, I feel sorry for him, given the lack of quality talent he’s had to carry most of his eleven seasons.

Our strength was supposed to be our dynamic forwards. But they haven’t been anything close to dynamic in two months. Thus, we swim upstream and hope Hank can be brilliant in periods 2 and 3.

Given our typical post-season output, the best we can hope for is score a goal late to push it to OT. If the Habs score again, the way these elite stars are going, might as well change the channel.

      Just venting… I won’t. :).

But that’s the problem. Good is not good enough. He’s supposed to put points on the board. He’s been an atrocious playoff performer in that regard and really hasn’t been effective in two months.

Good play (and that’s debatable frankly) from one of your best forwards won’t cut it. We need great. Can he be?

  • Apr 20, 2017 at 7:53 pm

Watch Hayes. Is that the slowest player you ever saw? He doesn’t know how to play playoff hockey. His reaction time is in minutes. No desire. Not the kind of player a team wins with.

I can’t remember where I heard this. NHL Network Radio maybe? But there was a discussion about Hayes and conversation then turned to his brother Jimmy. Serious questions about their motor and desire.

I thought Hayes was pretty good last game. But again, like Miller, good won’t cut it.

As for Kreider, I’d settle for good right now. Just horrible.

Miller is a train wreck. Horrible play and then an utterly stupid penalty. This is why he’s spent time in AV’s Chateau De Bow Wow. The PK bailed his butt out.

Hank tremendous again. But maybe we should start Raanta in OT? 🙂

As I said, no chance this team can score three goals in regulation, so here we go. OT. Hank will have to stand on his head for 3 OTs and then eventually the Habs will collapse and we will score on a breakaway. 🙂

BTW, was listening to the Habs broadcast on radio. Their announcers are stunned a team like the Rangers, much weaker than the Habs as they put Tim are in this one.

Lindberg and fast are keepers!!!!!!. Big Game players!!!!

I might have to add them to my untouchables list!!!

You are going off the deep end again my friend!

But tonight, after that great win, I think I will cut you some slack. 🙂

I do agree that our depth guys have bailed our butts out. Totally agree on Lindberg and Fast, and particularly love what the latter is doing after all the unwarranted abuse he takes out here.

I agree with the latter on the veteran center…someone who can FINISH on scoring chances. And we need a defensive upgrade or two.

But how about Girardi? Everyone was running him out of town and he’s been real good in this series. Skjei, McDonagh. Terrific. (Gee, I thought AV was abusing and misusing Girardi?).

And I wonder of one of our posters who will remain nameless still think they are choke artists and that they are done?

This team has flaws. I think the forwards are tremendously overrated. But NEVER question their heart and their fortitude.

And Hank….superstar. Anyone still believe we’d be better off with Raanta in there?

We know they can handle adversity. Can they handle success and close it out in Game 6 like they did three years ago?

Girardi still cant keep up with quicker guys , but he has played terrific ……Stall lost puck leading to habs 2 nd goal…did not like….
Smith has been great … another keeper…..

Not for nothing, but AV making his “adjustments” now are the line up moves a lot of us have been asking for, for months. Glad the coach can get up to speed.

Maybe I should invite AV to section 215 so I can point these things out to him. He can have a nice view from above.

Yes, even I admit that this is an obnoxious post, lol. 🙂

Happy to eat crow! But, he did get a little lucky. It was a deflection off a stick or skate that happened to go to Mika. Mika knows how to finish!

So happy for him. Had big skates to fill taking Big Game Brassard’s place!

As I said, when I watch, I’m irrational. Then I calm down. Kreider can stay…for now. 🙂

So, if I’m going to eat crow on Kreider, how about giving props to AV and the team. They have faced adversity all series (lose a heart breaker in game 2, then down 2-1 in the series, down early and out played in the first period tonight), they hang in and find a way.

Hard to say this team doesnt handle adversity well. It’s handling success that I worry about.

So come on Paul…say something nice about AV and the team’s resiliency. I know you can do it! 🙂

My post from earlier today, I’m just gonna leave this here:

“Mika is younger, cheaper, equally talented, equally productive, and better on faceoffs.

Plus, he potted 2 OT winners this season. Yeah, I’m not worried about him not yet being on fire yet through 4 playoff games. He’s gonna be a huge part of this team’s future.”

Did I mention that Mika is the OT guru?

What an amazing overtime period by the Rangers! Thoroughly dominated the Habs. Mika had a terrific game all night and Kreider awoke during OT to set up the winner.

Back to MSG to finish the Habs!

Now go home play hard, tough hockey and close it out. Chris Kreider, played well last game with being reunited Mika and Buch. This game they continued to put pressure on the Canadians D while creating many scoring opportunities. Winning goal scored by Mika made by Kreider. Buchnevich is a star in the making just needs to grow and get stronger. That OT should be how every period the Rangers should play. Don’t give the Habs time or space just come at them in waves line after line. Hail to the King.

This blog is something else. You write a piece comparing Mika and Brass, and Mika has his biggest game as a ranger and nets the OT winner. It’s like you knew what was coming!! Love it!!

I realllllllly hope that is the wake up Kreider needed. What a dominant OT by the whole team. I’m so happy with a number of these players playing their hearts out, — Nash, Mac, Lindberg, Fast, Smith, Skej. I’m even loving me some girardi right now. And obviously hank.

The playoffs are something else, i said this after game 1 and I reiterate … I really don’t know how I’m supposed to function as a human during this spring.

Need to mention that the much derided Girardi, although sometimes getting turned around in his own zone, overall had quite a good game, delivering some booming checks, pinching in at the right time and blocking shots. Get a good day’s rest Danny, going to need you again in NY.

That’s Dave.. once a Ranger always a Ranger. Have you ever seen the clip of him being interviewed after we lost the deciding game 5 against the Isles in ’84?… The man was inconsolable.

The Dave Maloney clip is at 4:28 in.

Some classic stuff from 1984 NYC TV. Warner Wolf and then Sal Marchiano (who, for some of you of a certain age, maye recall he did Rangers TV for a year I believe in between Tim Ryan and Jim Gordon)

If there was video review back then, does that Don Maloney tying goal get overturned?

Also, take a look at the save by Glen Hanlon on the Tonelli breakaway. Unreal. The game winning goal he let up vs. Morrow in OT was bad, and that’s what we remember. But everyone forgets that Hanlon was mostly brilliant in that series. His game 2 performance was off the charts brilliant. After the winning goal, Billy Smith, who shunned post-game hand shakes, skated to Hanlon and put his arm around him.

I remember minutes before, Mikko Leinonen nearly scored on a glorious chance in front (breakaway maybe?). He scores there, Hanlon has a place similar to JD in Rangers lore, and Mikko would be revered like Stemkowski. That Rangers team was good that year, and it was only the unfair divisional format that had the Rangers play the Islanders in round one. If the Rangers had won that game, I’m convinced they would have found a way to make it to the SCF (where they would have lost to the Oilers).

In the end, the Rangers had a lot of really good players. The Islanders had great players. Great players find a way and win Cups.

I hadn’t forgiven Leinonen yet. Lol. And I think Bob Brooke had the breakaway. 33 years ago seems like yesterday. Back then the rule was stick above the shoulder was no goal.. it was close as can be.. but was a high stick.. thank God for no replay then.. but Alas the seeing eye shot from Morrow with a Pat Flatley screen got by Hanlon. To this day.. like Dave Maloney said in his post game interview, I defy that the Isles were the better team that series.

Extremely critical depth pieces. Lindberg soldiers that 4th line, winning faceoffs, forechecking, hitting, and playing an all around sound game. Fast is everywhere, never gives up on a play, and now has two huge goals!

That was a flat out dominant performance in OT and for most of the 3rd. Hank kept them in it in the 2nd and the save on Pacioretty’s breakaway looked effortless. Just a great win and I am thrilled for Kreider and Zib! Nash is a force of nature…
