Practice notes: Girardi a full participant, McDonagh in non-contact jersey

April 11, 2016, by

Per Steve Zipay, Dan Girardi is a full participant in practice today after missing the last two games of the season with an upper body injury. Girardi was leveled by Brian Boyle in the third period of that contest.

Eric Staal, Mats Zuccarello, and Viktor Stalberg are also full participants.

Ryan McDonagh was on the ice in a non-contact jersey, but holding a righty stick. He’s not close, and AV confirmed he will not play in the opener.

So Mcdonagh was holding a righty stick. Does that mean it’s a shoulder/arm issue?

Brooks says it’s a metacarpal break in his hand. But that’s just a report. Unconfirmed.

    Per AV….

McDonagh will not play in Game 1. Beyond that day to day.

Hank left practice feeling “ill”. Expected back and to be fine tomorrow.

Girardi is expected to have full practice with the team tomorrow. Then it will be determined if he can go in Game 1. He is expected to play.

Everyone else skated and is healthy…..relatively speaking.

sounds like it was an up tempo practice have a good day guys and good luck on Wednesday

McDonagh needs to suck it up, tape the damn hand and get on the ice. Broken Metacarpal is nothing.

Well, given that the guy played with a broken foot in the ECF last year, I’m not too concerned about his desire or ability to “suck it up”. It’s probably less about pain tolerance than it is the simple matter of whether he can actually grip a stick. If he can’t, then he’s useless.
