Friedman: Lindberg likely won’t clear waivers

Per Elliotte Friedman, there are a lot of teams watching the Oscar Lindberg situation with the Rangers very closely. They want to see how he performs and if he makes the team. It is highly unlikely Lindberg clears waivers if he does not make the team, and the Rangers are well aware of this.

Friedman isn’t exactly bringing us shocking news, it’s something we’ve all speculated since the summer. Lindberg is an NHL player, and he will be an NHL player –hopefully for the Rangers– this season. The notion that he’s not going to clear waivers is known.

That said, perhaps others are watching players like Tanner Glass and Dominic Moore, guys that Lindberg might replace in the lineup (removing the newly signed Jarret Stoll/Viktor Stalberg from the equation, as teams rarely trade recently signed players). If Lindberg makes team, it’s likely one of them –probably Glass– will be on the outside looking in.

Of course, the Rangers could look to trade Lindberg if they prefer to keep Glass and Moore. That’s a situation that not many are willing to discuss. Likely because it’s a ludicrous scenario.
