Brooks: Callahan to return tonight; Miller healthy scratch

Per Larry Brooks, captain Ryan Callahan appears to be returning tonight against Anaheim. Cally suffered a broken thumb a few weeks ago in Washington, and was scheduled to be out for 3-4 weeks. A return tonight would put him right on the three week return date.

To make room for Cally in the lineup J.T. Miller will be a healthy scratch. Coach Alain Vigneault noted that Miller had a tough game in Carolina, which is the reason for his removal from the lineup. Taylor Pyatt still remains in the lineup.

Now media saying AV says he doesn’t know who scratch will be yet but leaning towards Miller. Also mentions the Ducks put out top PP unit while up 6-0 with six minutes left last game…read into that what you will.

I also wonder if this is a little mental kick to JT and that he may not be scratched tonight. We shall see.

Could it be because Boudreau is a douche.

      • VinceR says:

Well I’m not denying that…but how does Pyatt over Miller help that at all? Not like Pyatt is any good at sending lessons (unless the lesson is “don’t you let my team into the offensive zone or I will commit a penalty on you”).

    • Dave says:

Boudreau countered with “have you seen our powerplay?” Also, he said he sent the fourth line out next shift.

Miller scratched? Really… What has Pyatt done to deserve a spot in the lineup!?

    • VinceR says:

I can’t figure it out at all. Now, I’m not an NHL coach or anything, but this to me seems to be a head-scratcher.

      • Chris F says:

On the one hand this move is more of a logistical necessity in that Callahan, the team captain, has returned and someone has to sit. In that regard, young JT Miller should not take it too personally.

On the other hand, sitting anyone should be based somewhat on accountability, of which Pyatt has none thus far. It sends the wrong message to Miller, in my opinion.

Same question being asked by me, and thousands more, it’s a shame!!!

  3. Todd says:

Pyatt needs to sit. Not only is he not producing, he is taking some real stupid penalties.

    • BenM says:

Could not agree more. Stupid offensive zone penalties as well as too many holding and hooking penalties due to his lack of foot speed.

  4. The Suit says:

Agree with the sentiment, prefer Miller over Pyatt or even Dorsett. Those are taking too many dumb penalties and that can’t happen against the Ducks.

Could be a historical matchup thing for Pyatt, but who knows.

  5. Evan M says:

Even though Dorsett seems to be the most willing to drop the gloves, I’d like to see him scratched for a game or two. Hopefully, that would result in more responsible play. He takes so many bad penalties, and is leading the league in PIM.

Miller today, OK, but next game or two I’d like to see Dorsett out.

  6. Spozo says:

Callahan returning from injury ahead of schedule. That’s a complete shocker!

I think we are all searching for answers for Pyatt. It is confusing.

  8. Chris.C says:

So Miller out or In for tonites game??

  9. AD says:

The only thing that makes sense is AV prefers Canadian players over American kids. Or, AV simply does not develop prospects well;. Take your pick.
