Zuccarello a healthy scratch, Mashinter will play tonight

Per Andrew Gross, Mats Zuccarello will be a healthy scratch tonight in Philly. Brandon Mashinter will play on the fourth line with Dominic Moore and Derek Dorsett. AV noted (per Gross) that Zucc being a scratch is performance based, and not a case of wanting a tougher presence in the lineup against the Flyers.

Kudos to Chris for being ahead of the puck on this topic. Glad this was discussed at length yesterday.

I like it. But if they scratched Pyatt instead of Zucc I’d be just as pleased. Wake up, boys.

I got trashed for my remarks on Z yesterday; by my son as well. I stand by them.

I like the move for the reason that Vindiesel said it wasn’t based on. Should, in theory, give us a bit more size and toughness. And this is, quite honestly, more what a 4th line should look like. No place for Zuc or Richards, as examples, skating on the 4th fwd unit.

Although Zuc’s creativity with the puck will be missed. I don’t really see how he’s been singled out by Alain Vindiesel. I’m sure it’s something that has been addressed in the locker room and practice (i.e. missed assignments, poor positional play, etc) but I haven’t been able to put a finger on what Zuc specifically is doing wrong that a number of other players aren’t.

On another note….. anybody think we’ll see a good Newbury v Dorsett tilt tonight?

I wouldn’t give kudos to someone for anticipating a coaching move by Vigneault. Benching a guy who hasn’t scored is an obvious move – doesn’t make it right.

Vigneault complained about a lack of team effort. The way to address that is to bench guys who aren’t working hard, not guys who aren’t getting results. My impression was Zuc was giving it his all. He just wasn’t getting the results needed to cover up the failures of Lundquist,Girardi,Stepan.

A top 6 forward with Zucc’s size has to score 25+ goals to justify that spot in the lineup. He’s never shown that kind of production.

He hasn’t played well, paraticularly the last few games…but Zucc would of had a handful of assists if other guys could bury the puck…he made some sweet plays in the first two games

I posted that if Zucc was going to be scratched, it would be for Mash, and I was right. We need the size, and grit for this game folks, that is probably the only reason for this move!!
