Kreider on top line with Stepan and Richards

October 21, 2013, by

Per Pat Leonard, the newly recalled Chris Kreider is getting another shot at top line minutes, this time skating with Derek Stepan and Brad Richards. The rest of the lines:

Taylor Pyatt-Brian Boyle-Matz Zuccarello
Benoit Pouliot-Derick Brassard-Derek Dorsett
J.T. Miller-Dom Moore-Jesper Fast

On defense, Michael Del Zotto was back in the lineup:

Ryan McDonagh-Dan Girardi
Marc Staal-Anton Stralman
Del Zotto-John Moore

It is interesting to note that Brandon Mashinter, who was just called up, is not skating with a forward line at the moment. The next game isn’t until Thursday, so that may change.

My god is that a weak forward lineup. Need healthy bodies!

  2. Todd says:

Too many underachievers on the front lines

  3. Puck Luck (@Centerman21) says:

That’s just the lines. Not the order in which they’re gaining playing time I hope. If Boyle and Pyatt are 2 of the 2nd line, we in a heap of trouble. This is a team in Philly we have handled mightily over the last 3 seasons. They are struggling more than the Rangers are. They can’t score. Their goaltending has been decent but their D is horrid. This is a must win for the Rangers and a big test for Kreider. He has to have a big game. Especially without the puck in both O & D zones.

  4. Chris F says:

Why is Brassard on the 3rd line with scrubs Dorsett and Pouliot?

Brassard’s talent is with finishers. What a waste.

  5. Chris F says:

Game-time lines on Thursday had better be something more similar to:

    • Chris F says:

As per Larry Brooks, Kreider to be on line with Richards/Brassard or Miller/Stepan.

      • bernmeister says:

The ONLY combo that works really well, that is maximally complementary is

Kreider – Miller who play off each other’s speed. That is the key to making AV’s system work and he is an IDIOT if he does not see that!

Either Cally when healthy or Fast for now = RW

When all healthy + on board, the 2nd line should be Kreider-Miller-Callahan

the 3rd can be a Swede line of
        Hagelin – Lindberg – Fast

However, getting from now til then, these should be the lines:

        lose Pyatt

        Mashinter is overrated
Zuc too small to play D should go.

Would consider Hrivik and St. Croix as W options to provide scoring now (Kristo supposedly not ready)

If we move Boyle +/- in package w/w-o MDZ, we can get something, possibly help on W while Nash is out.

We have a guy Yogan, a tall C, think he shoots L, has decent scoring touch, last year, must be disheartened from no chance while guys like Pyatt play. Want to give him a shot, presum he does not play RW as off W, so as replacement LW for Boyle.

  6. AD says:

Brassard w/Dorsett & Pouliot certainly is a waste. So is Zuccarella with Boyle & Pyatt.

I guess when you have the Sedin twins putting up 90-100 points per season, you never really have to learn how to construct a full lineup.

  7. Walt says:

I see Mashinter in the line up against Philly before Fast!!!!!

  8. The Suit says:

So is MZA supposed to be on a shutdown line, or is that Moore’s line? Because either way these don’t make a lot of sense.

  9. jerry says:

i at least think they should give fast and miller more of a chance on a line other than a fourth line role.fast is a scorer not a fourth line checker.you put pyatt and boyle ahead of them.. really..here we go not letting our kids develop.play them, we couldnt be any worse than we are right now.iread alot this summer that av does not play kids in major roles.

  10. Erixon20 says:

I look at those lines and I think Zuc and Pyatt are the glaring weaknesses. Fast and Miller are kids, but that’s ok. With Pouliot and Brassard, we really are hoping that these 2 guys with bigtime talent figure out how to be consistent. I’d like to see:

    JT Miller-Brian Boyle-Zuccarello or Pyatt
    Benoit Pouliot-Derick Brassard- J Fast
    B Mashinter-Dom Moore-Dorsett

Not a very good crop of forwards.

  11. Bloomer says:

Kreider and Richards would have problems on Right Wing as they both are very dominated left handed shooters. Me thinks only Pyatt and Zukie with his long stick can play both wings. Fast and Dorcett are righties.
The Rangers have the same problem on defence as with 5 left handed dman they are having difficulties filling the right side spot. I thought Staal was starting to make the adjustment nicely to the right side, but I see in the above lineup John Moore is listed there.
