Torts introduced in Vancouver; Nucks talking to Sully

In case you missed it, John Tortorella was introduced as the Canucks head coach today, marking the first time in history that teams have swapped head coaches in the same offseason. As per John Shannon of Sportsnet, the Canucks were also granted permission by the Rangers to talk to current assistant coach Mike Sullivan. Larry Brooks had initially reported that Sully was definitely out as assistant coach, so this shouldn’t be much of a surprise.

Here’s the Torts press conference, which was interesting to say the least.

good for him, but is his style of coaching really what they need? do any rangers make the move with him?

  2. Sally says:

Wish him the best of luck, but hope the Rangers win when we play Vancouver.

  3. Andrew says:

    YES. i **** hate sully

I can see Boyle and a few more Rangers eventually moving out west to join Torts. Torts will be successful in Vancouver. AV in New York I have my doubts. Still think Richards for Lou would be a fair trade. One big contract for another. The Rangers could flip Luongo and move the sulking Lundquist if his contract demands become outrageous. Its hard to ice a competitive team when your goalie is making 10 millions a season. Just saying.

I am laughing at everything you wrote. The “sulking” Henrik? All of Torts’ success is derived from him. Torts will not have henrik to bail him out in Vancouver, so I cannot wait to watch that. And what Rangers would leave to go to Torts besides our grinders?

I have no idea how you can assume Torts will succeed but you have doubts about AV. Did you hear what torts said? He plans on using the Sedins on the penalty kill and said they will have to learn to block shots. The sedins havent played on the penalty kill regularly since 2006 and Henrik Seding has 125 career blocked shots. To put that in perspective, Callahan has 137 blocked shots the last two seasons. Good to see torts is going to force his stupid habits on players who do not know how to do that.

Flip Luongo for what? Blockbuster video tapes? That deal should just be bought out. What are you talking about?

And 10 million a season for hank is not going to happen. I know brooks said that like an idiot, but Henrik is a smart player. That type of contract will destroy any team’s chances of winning a cup if he asks for that much.
