Rangers recall Kris Newbury

The Rangers have recalled center Kris Newbury from the Connecticut Whale. This is Newbury’s second stint with the Rangers this year. In his first call up, Newbury stayed for just one game, and finished with 7 PIMs. Newbury showed some great chemistry with Chris Kreider, putting together an impressive line of 1-8-9 while Kreider was with the Whale.

Newbury replaces the departed Jeff Halpern and Stu Bickel.

Maybe it’s just me but I liked what I saw from Newbury the times he was called up. Plus he adds some of that “grit” and “energy” that has been lacking.

The fact he’s not afraid to drop the gloves and had great chemistry with Kreider doesn’t hurt either…

So its Newbury, Miller, and Kreider. Not a bad line on paper, lets see if it works!!!!

Miller has a wrist problem. If he can’t go tomorrow, the Rangers need a fourth center and Newbury can play center.

I really like these moves. Shakes things up for a somewhat stale team at the moment. Kreider also just praised Newbury in a interview. Hopefully he makes Kreider feel more comfortable and gives us a good 3rd line.

I never really understood why some of these really solid AHL vets never get called us despite constantly putting up a decent showing in the AHL.

Agreed, I think these moves are fantastic. They shake things up a bit to see if they can get it done internally before they look outside the organization… Nice work FO.

they get called up and only play 5 minutes , so they can’t really get into the flow of the game . they will need to give him more minutes tomorrow because he will be playing 3rd line minutes , unless they switch him and boyle . hope they don’t

Newbury is a good stopgap, shame he hasn’t had the same offensive success in the big leagues as he has in the AHL. Maybe this time he may chip in with a goal or two.

This team needs a makeover. Id like to see:
    Gaborik-Richards-Nash
    Hags-Stepan-Cally
    Pyatt-Newbury-Kreider
    Haley-Boyle-Powe
    Or if Gaborik is traded:
    Hags-Richards-Nash
    Kreider-Stepan-Cally
    Newbury-Miller-Pyatt
    Haley-Boyle-Powe
