Around the Farm: Skjei and Minnesota eliminated from WCHA playoffs

Brady Skjei’s Minnesota Golden Gophers were stunned by lowly Colorado College in the WCHA Final Five last night, losing by a score of 2-0. The loss eliminates the Gophers from the WCHA playoffs, and prevents Minnesota from getting an automatic bid to the Frozen Four. As the top team in the country, Minnesota will get an at-large bid, but they likely will not receive the top seed in the tournament. Interestingly enough, Skjei was a healthy scratch for the game.

The playoffs began for all Rangers prospects (aside from the AHL), so be sure to check their progress after the jump.

  • AHL (W 3-2)
  • NCAA
    • Brady Skjei (Minnesota, L 2-0, Eliminated from WCHA playoffs): Did not play (healthy scratch)
  • QMJHL
    • Sam Noreau (Baie-Comeau, W 6-2, Lead series 1-0): Did not play (broken hand)
  • WHL
    • Michael St. Croix (Edmonton, W 9-0, Lead series 1-0): 1 G, 2 A, 2 PIM, +3
    • Shane McColgan (Saskatoon, L 3-0, Trail series 2-0): 0 G, 0 A, 4 PIM, -1
    • Josh Nicholls (Saskatoon, L 3-0, Trail series 2-0): 0 G, 0 A, 4 PIM, -1

Minor point: Minnesota is/was locked into the #2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament going into this weekend. Even with their loss, they won’t drop, and even with Quinnipiac’s loss last night, they weren’t going to drop.
