Around the Farm: Lindberg, Fast have multi-point nights

It appears that despite rough seasons last year, Oscar Lindberg and Jesper Fast have found their stride to open the SEL season. Lindberg, already off to a hot start, scored a goal and added two assists in Skellefteå AIK’s 5-2 win. Those three points give Lindberg a line of 2-5-7 in just five games in the low-scoring SEL.

As for Fast, the touted prospect is still recovering from a gruesome ankle injury last season. But that didn’t stop him from scoring twice in HV71’s 5-3 win last night. That gives Fast three goals in five games to open the season.

Fast and Lindberg were the only two prospects in action last night. After jump, you can see their scoring lines from last night.

  • Jesper Fast; HV71/SEL: 2 G, 0 A, +2, 2 SOG
  • Oscar Lindberg; Skellefteå AIK/SEL: 1 G, 2 A, +1, 5 SOG

    How does the Swedish Elite league compare to the NHL? is the skill quality comparitive to say the AHL?

  2. Dave says:

    The SEL is one step above the AHL, based off this gem by Gabriel Desjardins (one of the gurus of hockey stats): http://hockeyanalytics.com/Research_files/League_Equivalencies.pdf

    Basically the article gives players an NHL equivalency rating based on league, and the SEL falls right below the Czech league, but above the AHL.

      @Dave,

      Do you belive in everything you read??
      In Europe KHL is the best league afther that comes Swedish Elitserien/ and Swiss NLA. DEL in Germany and manby after that comes Czech league!

      And i would say that AHL is a better leage then Czech first leage.

      • Dave says:

        @Ken, based on what Gabriel says in that link, the KHL is far and away the best. The Czech league, SEL, and SM-liga (Finns) are the next three, and have a negligible difference in the quality of talent.

        After that comes the AHL, then the SNL, then the DEL. NCAA comes last.

        I trust Gabriel, a pioneer of the advanced metrics that we use regularly here.
