Zach Parise says he likes Torts, a lot…hmmm

Stick to tap to Scully a Blue Seat Blog frequenter for finding this.

According to Arthur Staple at Newsday, Zach Parise’s father was asked about Zach’s feelings on John Tortorella. His response:

“Zach likes Torts a lot. Zach knows how to work, he doesn’t shy away from the discipline part of it. He’d fit right in there.”

Obviously his father was baited a bit there, but still you have to wonder how this all plays a role in Parise’s decision making come July. Personally, I am not sold on Parise as a New York Ranger, not yet at least until we lock up our key RFAs. Still, regardless of how this postseason ends, Sather will likely at least kick the tires on Parise come July and do his due diligence.

    Go get ‘im Slats!

  2. Matt says:

Yes, yes….come to the dark side!

I’d loved him for a while, and would love to see him in a Ranger uni! is 7-7.5 enough though?

  3. wwpd says:

    no Parise please.

    • Dave says:

      Why not?

      • Spozo says:

I agree with wwpd. He will get elite money and I don’t think he is an elite player. He is a really good player but not elite. Also how many times have we been burned with high priced former devils who hit the open market?

  4. becky says:

    don’t hate it.

  5. Zen says:

What an interesting comment by the father. I had thought that Parise coming here was just not possible, but this changes my thinking a tad. He is correct though, he would fit on this club like glove at LW. Move Hagelin to the third line and keep CK on the second line. Talk about speed throughout the lineup! Some salary clearing moves would have to be made though.

  6. trickster says:

Rangers need to win this series to sign Parise.

  7. Steve says:

    Lets worry about this year.

And for people who say they wouldnt sign Parise- you are out of your mind. Aside from the price, Parise is a boss. he would fit right in to rangers system. watch him without the puck for once shift. hes elite

    • HARLEMBLUES says:

Dubi is overpaid at 4+ problem.Parise is a good heady player, superstar no, superstar money hell no.Hockey team game best players play around 20 minute a game not like basketball were your best players may play 40+ and have more say in the out come of the game. You must have cap room to resign FA and the plan is working Hagelin,Kreider are here with JT Miller,Erixon and McD onthe way. Please no Parise. If he is a superstar the Devils resign their captain.

  8. The Suit says:

I probably wouldn’t be against signing Parise if the cost was right, but you can’t forget that the Rangers are getting out-muscled in this series and are having trouble establishing a presence in the slot. A 5’8 Parise doesn’t help us in that department.

    • Matt J says:

He’s 5’11 but I get your point. He won’t have a huge physical presence, but he does play bigger than his size.

Don’t forget Kreider is built like a tank and just needs to fill out a bit more and become stronger on the boards. Kreider did manage to knock down Mike Green which really proved to me he can become a physical presence. I hope like David Backes but with more offensive ability which would be great.

      • The Suit says:

He’s listed at 5’11, which is generous and common to over list small guys. I have friends who have seen him around Hoboken, and said he’s much shorter.

    • Walt says:

Look at the current team LA puts on the ice, your right on the money. Also, look back at the last five or six years, the teams that won the cup were indeed big, and strong!

That stated, if the money were right, I’d sign him, but not at the expense of some of our current guys being let go to accomidate Zack.

Next year Feds, Mitchell, and probably Dubi, will be gone! This opens up slots in the line up for maybe Miller, or another Backes, or Penner type of player that may be available in the free agent market next season.

  9. Mikeyyy says:

I like Parise. So who do we go after Nash or Parise?

  10. ranger17 says:

ZP only costs us money Nash would cost us 2 roster players 1st pick and a some one like Miller or bourgue or Thomas
    Parise BR Gabby
    Hags Step Kreider
    Dubie AA Cally
    Prust Boyle Rupp
    Could happen

  11. Scully says:

That’s really the market I think, you’ve got Parise as your Free Agent or Nash as your main trade bait guy. Unfortunately, the free agent market is a bit thinner than in recent off-seasons. Is Jagr on a one year deal? He’s big and can still score PP goals 😀 (Kidding… sort of).

And thank you for the stick tap Suit.

  12. rob sahm says:

not to keen on getting parise i would rather have nash or bobby ryan ryan is playing really good for the olympics now. im afraid parise would be another gomez or holik we dont need that

    • Scully says:

Gomez, Holik and Parise have absolutely nothinig in common other than the fact that they played for the Devils. Holik was a two-way mostly checking center who could score 20… the Rangers used him horribly wrong and didn’t have the people to surround him with (also that team was horribly out of shape). Gomez was a playmaker that didn’t gel with Jagr his first year and his second year he had no one to pass two. Parise is a Ryan Callahan with more offensive upside.

    ack! grammar errors.
