I am having a very hard time trying to remain calm after watching that abysmal performance by the Rangers against the Calgary Flames. Going into the game, the Rangers were barely clinging to a playoff spot and were in a must win situation, just to hold off the Montreal Canadiens. Calgary hadn’t arrived in NYC until 3am and were on the second of a back to back. The Rangers turned a gimme must win into a gutless and pathetic performance, losing 2-1 and mustering just 13 shots on goal while surrendering 35. Unacceptable, and that’s being nice.

Where’s the pride? Where’s the fight to stand up for your goalie who was a one-man army? Where’s the sense of urgency? Apparently not in New York. That No Quit In NY hashtag was burned at the stake last night. Making things worse, of those 13 shots on goal, only six were from forwards. Over half the shots on goal were from defensemen. Absolutely pathetic.

The only player worth talking about is Igor Shesterkin, no one else is worth the energy. Igor was unbelievable, and was the only reason why this wasn’t 7-1 or worse. He was locked in, faced 15 high danger chances and only gave up two goals. I say “he only gave up” because, let’s be real, he’s the only one that showed up. This was the Calgary Flames against Igor Shesterkin. This is why he got paid.

With this loss and a Montreal win against the Ottawa Senators, the Rangers fell out of the second wild card spot. They are one point back of Montreal, but Montreal has two games in hand. They are two points ahead of the Isles and Blue Jackets, but both of them also have two games in hand.
