Per Mollie Walker, Tyler Motte is hopeful to return to the New York Rangers. In his exit interview with Chris Drury, notable that Gerard Gallant did not take part in these (he didn’t last year, for what it’s worth), Motte, acquired for Julien Gauthier and a 7th round pick at the trade deadline, put up 5 goals and 10 points in 24 regular season games with the Rangers before being held scoreless in the playoffs.
#NYR Tyler Motte made it sound like his exit interview with GM Chris Drury went very well.
“Absolutely [I want to be back here]. Comfortable second time around here, for sure. Love this city, love this group.”
The fact that Rangers acquired him twice made him feel wanted.

This isn’t the first time Motte has wanted to return to New York after being acquired at the trade deadline. He wanted to return last year, but it appears that guaranteeing Vitali Kravtsov a roster spot got in the way of that last year. It’s clear the Rangers like him, since they re-acquired him at the deadline this year.
If Barclay Goodrow indeed is traded for cap space, then the Rangers would need an additional glue guy like Motte on the fourth line. He’s been effective there, and for the right contract, him and Jimmy Vesey could form a solid shutdown fourth line.
