Columbus is a good pick today, plus some NHL DFS picks.

Welcome to another edition of Blue Seat Bookie, 2023 has been mostly good for us in our betting corner here at the blog! I hope you have been winning money on these props. With that, let’s take a look at 3 matchups today that look enticing on today’s 10-game slate, with some NHL DFS picks as well.

Define the Great Money Line: (2-0)

Dallas Stars Defeat New York Islanders -115

The oddsmakers have this game being a toss up. Neither team has a + number in the money line. Dallas is more favored however because of their talent and I would agree with that. You look at the way Dallas has played this year under head coach Pete DeBoer and it’s no wonder they are where they are in the standings.

They have been playing some really exciting hockey this season thanks in large part to the likes of Jason Roberston, Roope Hintz, and the steadiness of Jake Oettinger. I look for that sort of success to continue in their favor as they face an Islanders team who gets the job more by committee than by talent. Seeing as it’s the Islanders, look for this one to be tight. Most likely will need OT or a shootout to get the victory even for a team as talented as Dallas is.

Pull up the Covers: (0-2)

Columbus Blue Jackets Cover the Tampa Bay Lightning +2.5 -130

There isn’t TOO much analysis you can do on this pick. Andrei Vasilevskiy will be in net tonight for the Lightning, but he has not always been a lock this season. With a record of 16-10-1 on the year, you can beat him. Columbus despite building for the future does still have some NHL talent on its roster who can put the puck in the net.

I really do believe they can keep a close game tonight like they were able to do against the Carolina Hurricanes over the weekend. Merzlikens gets the nod in net for the Blue Jackets and he is due for a tight game. Hopefully this is the game where we get a “win” on this prop for the first time in 2023 as well!

Overs orĀ Unders: (2-0)

Seattle Kraken / Buffalo Sabres OVER 6.5 Goals -120

This one is a lock for me. Both of these teams played last night, the Sabres got shutout on home ice to the Flyers, the Kraken shutout the Senators on the road, this has the makings of a 4-3 game by the 3rd period. Both teams have some exciting young talents in Matty Beniers and Tage Thompson who have both become must-watch TV for carrying their respective teams offensively.

I think I should just start calling this prop “OVERS” because it’s way more fun to bet the over this day and age in the NHL. The way teams can score now makes it so fun to watch for both sports betting, and as a fan of the game.

Dave’s NHL DFS Picks for the day

Boy did I whiff hard three days ago. Logan Thompson got lit up by LA and pulled, and all of Toronto’s scoring came from their second line. I was able to salvage respectability by nailing SEA1 as my value stack and Matt Roy getting a SHG, but aside from that, it was rough. Let’s rebound with today’s NHL DFS picks for the 10 game slate.

Goalie: Alex Georgiev- Colorado Avalanche ($8,100)

Andrei Vasilevskiy at $8,500 going up against Columbus is going to be extremely popular, and for good reason. But the concern with him would be volume, as CBJ doesn’t shoot much, and ownership. Casey DeSmith ($8,200) is intriguing with Pittsburgh against Vancouver, but I like Georgiev against the Florida Panthers.

Georgiev comes with a high win percentage (6 DraftKings points), at home against a freefalling Florida Panthers team that can’t play defense at all. Georgiev thrives with high shot volume and has stopped 67 of 72 shots in his last two games. He has a shot at the win and the 35+ bonus (3 DK points), giving you a nice base to work from. Florida’s implied live is under 3 goals as well, which is where you want to bank on your goalies.

Top Stack: PIT1: Jake Guentzel-Sidney Crosby-Bryan Rust ($19,200)

PIT1 against Vancouver is on sale today, with Crosby coming in at just $7,000. This line will likely get Vancouver’s top line of Mikheyev-Horvat-Boeser, which allows close to 3 goals per 60 minutes at even strength. Guentzel ($7,300) and Crosby play the powerplay as well, with Vancouver sporting a league worst 68.1% penalty kill rate. If you need to find better value than Rust ($4,900), then going with just Guentzel and Crosby is fine.
