The Rangers have placed Ryan Carpenter on waivers. Assuming he clears, the Rangers would get down to 22 players while opening up the full $750,000 in cap space for the trade deadline.

What this also means is Johnny Brodzinski will stay with the Rangers for the foreseeable future. Brodzinski doesn’t come with the same defensive or faceoff pedigree as Carpenter, but he’s faster and better on his skates. Given how slow the Rangers have looked, this matters.
