Limiting Adam Fox's penalty kill minutes will be crucial for load management this season.

Adam Fox is currently ranked as the 4th best defenseman on the NHL Top 20 defensemen list. Fox is behind Cale Makar, Victor Hedman, and Roman Josi. This checks out since that trio were the 2022 Norris Trophy finalists, with Makar winning. Fox of course won the trophy last season.

There will be some that take offense to this, but there’s really no problem with the top 3 being the trio that were the Norris finalists last season. It’s clear that this quartet and Charlie McAvoy, who was #5 on this list, are a cut above the rest at the current moment. Whomever finishes as a Norris Trophy finalist will be in the top 3, and that’s expected.

The fun begins at #6 with Kris Letang ahead of a few others on the list. For me, the only qualm I have is that Jaccob Slavin is far too low. The rest is subjective, and I’m sure the NHL network put this NHL Top 20 defensemen list out there with some question marks on purpose. You know, spur discussion. New-age click bait, for those who like the term.
