vincent trocheck contract

Some good news on the Vincent Trocheck contract, as the deal is front loaded, per CapFriendly.

Trocheck was the prized free agent for the Rangers yesterday, signing a 7 year deal with a cap hit of $5.65 million. The term is extreme, but the fact the contract is front loaded makes it easier to move down the road.

The Vincent Trocheck contract does have a no-move clause in the first three years, but that’s not a big deal. It turns into a modified no-trade clause (12 team list) in the fourth year, his age-32 season. The layout of the contract screams “trade me after the 2027 signing bonus is paid,” but in all honesty it can probably be moved beforehand.

There is a popular phrase going around that basically says if you sign the contract with the intent on trading it, then it’s a bad contract. I wholly disagree with that sentiment. It’s been shown time and time again, specifically with Tampa, that you can sign these deals, get the best years, and dump it later.

The only concern with the Vincent Trocheck contract is that if the Rangers go the buyout route, the front loaded nature leads to a larger cap hit in those final contract years. But that seems unlikely.
