Vitali Kravtsov survived the Rangers final roster cuts, for now.

Per Vince Mercogliano, the Rangers have re-signed Vitali Kravtsov to a one year contract.

The contract shouldn’t be a surprise, as he was an RFA and re-signing him was always happening. Even if he gets traded following all that drama, it’s easier to trade a player under contract than one still pending a contract.

As for the contract itself, $800k is an easy cap hit to swallow. Vince is incorrect here on what a one-way contract means, and it’s a common misconception thanks to video games. A one-way deal means Kravtsov is getting paid his NHL salary no matter where he plays (NHL, AHL). He aged out of waiver exemption this season, so he’d need to pass through waivers regardless of one-way or two-way contracts.
