As the Omicron variant spreads, professional sports leagues across the board are having a slew of positive tests. The NBA, NFL, and NHL are all experiencing extremely high COVID positive tests, which is impacting all teams across the board. This isn’t unique to the NHL, and their options are extremely limited.

The first option is to press on, and just let teams figure it out. The NHL can re-implement some sort of taxi squad for these situations, and just let them power through. The drawback is some teams may get extremely unlucky, and what happens if you can’t dress a full roster?

The second option is to shut things down for a period of time, one week, two weeks, whatever that may be. It lets teams get healthy, and puts everyone back on equal ground. The drawback is that it doesn’t guarantee anything and likely just kicks the can down the road.

As a reminder: Vaccines aren’t cures and aren’t 100% effective.
