This could be a last ditch effort to find a role for Hajek, the lynchpin of the Ryan McDonagh trade. The Rangers apparently have built themselves an odd history of moving defensemen to forward. First Brendan Smith, now apparently Hajek.
Libor Hajek as a forward just seems off, but crazier things have happened.
Update: Gerard Gallant stated it was just to balance things out as they had an odd number of forwards.
