Per Larry Brooks, the Rangers have qualified six restricted free agents ahead of today’s deadline.

The Rangers qualified Filip Chytil, Igor Shesterkin, Libo Hajek, Tim Gettinger, Ty Ronning, and Adam Huska. All six were expected to be qualified, and the Rangers will retain their rights and receive offer sheet compensation should the issue arise. From an AHL standpoint, it’s clear the Rangers want to give Gettinger, Ronning, and Huska more time, which bodes well for how the organization thinks of them.

Of the non-qualified players, all of which will go to free agency, the only two of note are Yegor Rykov and Gabriel Fontaine. Rykov went back to Russia last season and it appears he likely won’t come to the NHL at all. He was the prize of the Michael Grabner trade, but has since been passed on the depth chart by many. Fontaine had a few injury issues and unfortunately never fully recovered.
