Per Larry Brooks, who appears to be back from vacation, the Rangers will be signing defenseman Patrik Nemeth in free agency as soon as Wednesday.

Per Evolving Hockey, Nemeth is most likely to get one year at $1.7 million or three years at $3 million. Nemeth is a fine defenseman, well rounded if unspectacular. His underlying numbers are pretty good ate even strength actually. He’s definitely worth the one year, however three years for a depth defenseman is still risky and an unnecessary cap move. He’s a one-strength defenseman evens) who will hold his own. There are certainly worse moves to make, depending on the contract, of course. This is a fine signing, especially at what Brooks projects at 2-3 years at $2.5 million.

Nemeth would slot in as the 3LD behind Ryan Lindgren and K’Andre Miller, likely keeping the spot warm for Zac Jones, if Jones is still with the Rangers when the season starts. He’d be a perfect partner for Nils Lundkvist, who appears to be all but penciled into the 3RD spot.
