  • Confidence on hold until the draft and Eichel situation gets resolved. There are many things Drury can do to make this team better for 2021-22. It all starts with selecting the right coach.

  • Exactly, with caveat about Eichel, his neck issue is resolved, it’s a deal breaker. Lets just say until the center situation is resolved. Otherwise agree with everything said.

    • Have to disagree, there’s no evidence that Sather has interfered much in the past since stepping down and installing JG. The fact Drury got named BOTH GM and President tells us the ball is firmly in his court and he has full support from both Sather and Dolan — at least that’s my take.

  • Like others have already stated, the Drury is still out! Let’s see if he has real authority and let’s see who he hires as head coach.

Until then I am stuck at 7 which I reduced to when the purge happened just before the end of the season. I have high hopes for the current roster if the fourth line is upgraded with some size and snarl and they get another physical defenseman for the third pair. Most importantly though, they need a head coach who can instill in this young team the basics for being ‘hard to play against’.

  • Come trading time I don’t see that any of the Ranger centers will be excluded from possible trades. None of them are capable of taking the Rangers to the promise land so I expect some changes there.
I believe that we can stop all the speculation about Eichel. Even if he opts for surgery and heals, one strong hit and he may be done if not paralyzed.. Even for Jack its too high a risk to take. He’s already set for life so whats the point?

  • Franchises in any sport that enjoy long-term stability (and fan confidence) do NOT precipitously fire a President and GM who have successfully implemented each of the initial steps required for total rebuild.

JD and, especially, JG had clearly succeeded at the part of the rebuild with the higher degree of difficulty — accumulating a pool of highly-skilled players. Failing to give them the opportunity to take the next steps and balance that talent with complimentary players is not the sign of a stable franchise

  • Jack Eichel becoming a Ranger would be a colossal mistake for the franchise. At best, he recovers from a pretty serious neck injury and performs as he has, which is NOT worth 10mil/year. At worse, he doesn’t resemble his former self at all, and is an albatross around the Rangers salary cap for years, not to mention the players they will be forced to trade or let go into free agency. That would destroy the entire rebuild. He is not worth the gamble…even if you get him for nothing.
I will make offerings to the hockey gods every day to ensure Jack Eichel does not become a NY Ranger if that’s what it takes.
