The Rangers are, for all intents and purposes, out of the playoff picture. They aren’t mathematically eliminated yet, but they need more than a little bit of help. At this point, the Rangers can only afford two losses to close out the season, plus need Boston to stop winning every game they play. Mathematically possible, but so is winning the draft lottery three times in a row.
Jacob Trouba is out tonight, and Zac Jones will make his Rangers debut in his stead. The defense pairs are a mess, and I think the coaching staff galaxy brained this. But the forward lines look good with Alexis Lafreniere and Chris Kreider swapping spots at even strength. Maybe this means Lafreniere will get powerplay time too?
