NY Rangers Game 37 Open Thread: Beat the bad team again

After barely escaping on Thursday, the Rangers are back at it tonight against the Buffalo Sabres. Thursday’s game was much closer than it should have been, with the Rangers dominating, but barely escaping with two points. A dominating performance, much like Thursday, is needed again, and hopefully Linus Ullmark won’t play like 2014 Dustin Tokarski.

Ice time was a touchy subject after that win, with the “kid line” barely playing at all after the first period. It was not a good look for a “development coach,” as the lines between contending and developing are starting to blur. Suffice it to say, ice time will be a major topic during in-game discussions here and on social media.

That and Vitali Kravtsov, of course.

    • Buffalo is skating well, they deserve some credit. Seems like someone spoke with Quinn, the use of personnel feels different tonight. Still don’t like who he uses for PP2, but otherwise the rolling of the lines feels right.

  • The Sabres are playing a quick transition game and the Rangers are getting caught. This would be a different game without Breadman in their lineup. 2-1 Rangers after 2.

  • Igor Shersterkin looks nothing like the goalie I played against in the KHL, has he been playing banged up, and do you think he’s to injury prone and fragile to be successful in the NHL?

  • I thought Shesterkin was solid. The Rangers gave up too many odd man breakaways and were human cough drops in their own zone. Tighten up the D Rangers you are getting sloppy.

      • That’s 2 games in a row he got beat late in the 3rd period on a quick shot from the slot. At least Igor was screened on the Thompson goal two games ago, he whiffed on the 2nd goal completely last night.

He will learn from these though I think. Quick turnarounds on broken plays on the smaller NHL ice are way different from the bigger ice of the KHL.

      • Lindgren played the 1st goal perfectly. Not saying Igor should have stopped it, but he could have stopped. Great shot by Middlestadt. I also thought in the shootout he was setting himself late.
