Morgan Barron and Matthew Robertson have been assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL. This reassignment removes them from the taxi squad. The AHL season is set to kick off in the next two weeks and the Rangers are ensuring two of their prized prospects are there. This will get them some real game time.
It was unlikely that Barron and Robertson got actual NHL game time while on the taxi squad. Robertson is likely headed back to the WHL if/when that season ever gets started. Given that Hunter Skinner signed in the ECHL, it doesn’t look like the Canadian Junior leagues are getting started any time soon.
I am still pending an answer as to whether Matthew Robertson’s contract will still slide in the AHL. The minimum game requirement is still fuzzy. Morgan Barron, no matter what, will get AHL playing time.
