NY Rangers Game 1 Open Thread: Rivalry night from the start

Today is a glorious day. NY Rangers hockey is back, and we open right with a rivalry. It’ll be a pair of games against the Isles to kick off the season. Rob wrote a great breakdown of the Isles and how they compare to the Rangers this season, so go check that out.

This game will be about the top end skill of the Rangers and the defense-first grinding style of the Isles. If it’s a track meet, the Rangers have the better skill. If it’s a slog fest, the Isles have the better depth.

Isles Lines (projected)

  • I have not been this excited about a Ranger game in a long time.

If Laf scores, then I am going to lose my mind, lol.

    • Hey pal! Happy and healthy Née Year to you and yours! Very excited too. Might even Stanley Cup contender excited if they can pull off a PLD trade!

      • Hey bro, Happy New Year as well!!

After last night, the Chytil/Kakko combo for PLD is looking pretty good?

I heard Torts roasted PLD in an interview.

This coach has to go bro.

      • LOL. That’s funny and true.

But bad Ranger hockey is a lot better than no Ranger hockey at all. 🙂

    • Spot on Frankie D, I guess Lemieux??, he has the heart of a lion, but not a true heavyweight. I hope we do not see Matt Martin or Ross Johnston

  • The one analysis person point-of-view I value the LEAST is Steve Valiquette’s…….He see’s the world through NY Rangers eyeglasses…..He is too rah-rah to have any accurate point of view…….LETS GO RANGERS !!!!!

      • Miller going to need 10 games to figure out that he needs to keep his head on a swivel even when the Rangers have the puck & there are certain plays you just can’t pull off at the NHL level.

        Trouba not helping.

  • Mr. David Quinn has a lot……..A LOT of work to do with this team……..(And I am getting nervous about our goaltending ).

  • This game highlights the difference between a “well-prepared” coached team and one that looks disorganized and not ready to play. Quinn is getting schooled again!!!

      • Somehow on the 3rd he blew up a Fox/Lindgren shift because he wouldn’t/couldn’t get off the ice. Played his shift with ADA, then Fox, then Lindgren when he had at least 1 chance to change.

The other thing, his pivots to go backwards are *painfully* slow. Like molasses in January slow.

  • I knocking on the door of 70 yrs old ……Have been a sports fan for more than half-a-century……….And “WE played better as the game went on ……BUT still lost just does nothing for me anymore !!!!!

  • Any more games like this from ADA and his availability will be on a group text the next day.

  • Quinn will not be coaching this team next season….I am seeing wasted talent at the hands of DQ..

  • I don’t understand why the 5th goal was called a goal initially. How was it different than the one the Rangers one that got rejected?

  • I’m assuming Barron will be recalled from the taxi squad with Rooney getting clobbered and Howden back to centre.

  • Say what Rangers “Head Coach”……His first words in post-game presser >>>>>”They are well coached “……So what does that make us ?????????????????

  • Kakko is starting to look like a new version of Alexei Kovalev….all the skill in the world but doesn’t seem too interested at times….never in the defensive zone! A very frustrating player to watch…..

  • Ouch.

They play like this on my birthday? That is a helluva present!

I’m a senior citizen these days. If JJ was any slower I’d out skate him!

Hopefully the coach has them prepared for the next Isle’s game. O’l Trotz had his team prepared coach. Go figure?

  • I wouldn’t review it tomorrow, Dave, I’m sure you have better things to do! we saw it, let’s all just move on with our lives
