  • Unclear why Zibby is “day to day”, but I know he needs to be ready to go when they drop the puck for real.

Hoping that more kids break camp with the club, so they can gain some real NHL experience.

  • This season and the format adopted for it are a Godsend for the Rangers, this opportunity to get playoff type experience all season for as many kids as possible is unique and must be taken advantage of. Back to back and all games within a very tough division will make each game a fight (figuratively) and will go farther in preparing youngsters for the type of effort that will ensure their work ethic for years (successful years) to come.

    • Agreed. The NYR need to use this schedule to get the kids real playing time so they know what to expect. Stop playing journeymen and start playing more kids.

    • I’m thinking that the compressed season is going to be good for the Rangers, because with so many games close together there will probably be more rotating players in and out of the roster, giving the kids more chances. Also, the way the taxi squad works, I have a feeling we’ll see Johnson and Smith rotated on and off of it to save money for the cap.

  • Back up to a 9 for me. I like the direction of the club. JD at the top seems calm and steady, not prone to rash moves. Staying the course, the team is going to be better this season as the young players gain experience, and perhaps a real contender next year when hockey finally gets back to normal. Good things are going to happen.

It will be fun to watch them this year!

  • I am still Very concerned that the kids will pay a heavy price for managements failure to add protective grit.

  • Still an 8.

Hearing Howden was playing as the 1C really scared me because I didn’t want to give Quinn any ideas. (yes, i know he was filling in for an unavailable Zib).

Speaking of Zib, make him Captain and let’s move on please. What’s the big deal? Zib, in an article, sounded like he wanted the C, so fearing he would not do well with it is a little hyperbole, quite honestly.

    • I’m changing my grade to “9” because I just read that the 3rd pairing, to start in camp, is Miller-Smith, not Johnson-Smith. Let’s hope that sticks.

Any hope is good at this point. But I cannot imagine that they signed Johnson to sit him. And if they do sit him, then shame on them (even more) for signing him to begin with.

With all the possibilities the Rangers have for the 3rd pairing, within their own org, I am still baffled by them bringing in Johnson. Isn’t it about young player development?
